Cards (38-29) at Nats (30-36)

Post#1 » by Jollay » Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:05 pm

Nats come home for a long homestand with the Cards, O's, and Mariners.

Cards just got swept by the Brewers but are still tied atop the Central. Nats get Zimmerman back tonight, and they have to be happy with just being able to survive without him. But now the fans will want/expect the Nats to at least push .500.

Jamie Garcia goes for the Cards tonight. He's been good (6-2, 3.20 ERA) and has owned the Nats (2-0, 0.87 ERA) but has not been nearly as good on the road this year as he has at home. Yunesky Maya goes for the Nats. He finally had a good outing his last start in San Francisco but probably still won't be here much longer.

Whoa! No way--had no idea...can't wait to see. In the park I take it? I'll wait to have dinner then. Think I'm gonna be a trooper and hit all nine games of the homestand.

The COO basically said something to the effect of it being a defining moment in Nationals history or something.

Miller Lite scoreboard. I may catch a game this weekend if I can. I like the fact that they're trying to improve the food.

Nice. I like it. But my main concern is just being able to get a beer in the quickest time possible when I'm in that area...

Great game last night--Nats score six in one inning to come back and win 8-6 off hapless ex-Nat Miguel Batista. Maya got hit early but Ryan Mattheus, Henry Rodriguez, Tyler Clippard, and Drew Storen were lights out. Livan goes against ex-starter Kyle McClellan tonight. Perhaps Albert Pujols will be a little more hesitant to murder a hanging curveball (like he did to Maya) considering Livo's drug connections.

Upstairs was nice, although the unexpected big crowd (27K) made the lines pretty huge,so I didn't stop at the shake place. The Frites place was good though, the Chipotle catsup and mayo-type sauces are pretty good...

Don't really get the Maya signing but it's not my money. I believe he's got another year left on his deal?

Anyway, Box Fritte just serves fries right? I believe there $10 a pop! WOW. I actually fell asleep in the bottom of the 7th inning, big time fail but glad the Nats won.

Unfortunately Maya was signed through 2013 at 2 mil per I believe. Only hope is that he's just adjusting to the talents of MLB hitters, and his location and decision-making will improve. It's possibel, and having Livan on staff certainly helps. Maya's stuff just isn't that impressive, it seems.

Gosh, don't THINK the fries were that much--wife was in that line while I was getting pork sandwich next door. That was okay but nothing special. I'll ask her tonight and find out. They were really good, though.

In other news LaRoche is done for the year as many people suspected. Zimmy didn't look good last night but looked okay in the field and had one nice at-bat in the six-run inning.

I believe the fries are $9.75 and the sauces are $2 each but I could be wrong. That's probably a $15 meal when you think about it, you add a coke or beer. Steep price.

I thought Maya was signed for like $4 or $5 million. $2 million isn't bad, that's basically what a guy out of the pen would make.

Wifey says it was decently cheaper than ten but each additional sauce past the first is two beans. Who knows...I'll check it out again tonight though unless I'm too lazy to walk up there...

Gotta bring a flask if I want to drink every game--it all gets WAY too expensive.

Still those french frites were money.

LOL at the Nats hyping the area as "revolutionary," though, or whatever. It's nice, but its basically astroturf under a tent. Nice on hot days, but hardly anything that the park will be known for.

It does add some personality to the Park though. Some of the areas just look bland, it's a nice ballpark but it's got no personality and as soon as you walk out, it's nothing but housing developments that haven't been constructed yet. No local bar that you could walk into and grab a drink after the game, nothing. I haven't been to a game yet, but my co-worker usually gives me the hook up on Diamond club seats, so the tickets have like $35 on them each. Good enough for a couple of beers and a hot dog.

Nats with a 5 game winning streak. Morse is absolutely raking it right now. If Clippard and Storen weren't playing so well, I'd vote for Morse as the team's All Star rep.

Lannan vs. Loshe tomorrow.

It's unbelievable. One of the bombs he hit last night cleared the visitors' bullpen and then went back like eight rows.

Cards made three errors, including Pujols at third, but it obviously wouldn't have mattered. First five-game winning streak since 2009.

Break up the Nats? Sweep tonight?

Espinosa! Nats sweep the Cards and are now 3 games under .500. Orioles are next (Jollay I can start that thread if you want, we can switch, do every other series).

They made an error tonight, which was the first one in 130+ innings.

Sweepy-sweepy! Eat it, Cardinals.

Knock yourself out, my friend! Of course they make an error after I bump the defense and pitching thread, BTW...

If I log on in between series I'll try to post a thread if it isn't already up too. Now to get the board having more than 4 posters ;)

Yeah, I'm trying to get more Wiz fans to come over, at least for the summer. There's nothing on. I'll try and pimp it out at least once a week.
