Pitching

Game 1: John Patterson, RHP (0-2, 9.35) vs. Mike Pelfrey, (0-0, 0.00)
Nationals: Patterson will face the Mets for the 13th time in his career. He is 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA against them. Patterson is looking to break a personal two-game losing streak. Pitching coach Randy St. Claire warned that the righty is going to have some tough moments early in the season because he is still building arm strength. St. Claire said it was expected from a guy who had missed most of 2006 because of an arm injury.
Mets: The 6-foot-7 right-hander won the job as the Mets' fifth starter in Spring Training. With three early off-days, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft was left behind in Florida and worked six innings for Class A St. Lucie on Saturday. Pelfrey, a standout at Wichita State, pitched at four levels in his pro debut last season, going 2-1 with a 5.48 ERA in four starts for the Mets. He didn't face the Nationals.

Game 2: Shawn Hill, RHP (0-2, 3.09) vs. Orlando Hernandez, RHP (1-0, 1.38 )
Nationals: Hill will face the Mets for the second time in his career. He has given up three runs in six innings against them. In his last outing, Hill pitched the best game of the season for the Nationals, going 6 2/3 innings, while giving up two runs on six hits against the Diamondbacks. It was the first quality start for Washington this season.
Mets: El Duque, who will face the Nationals with an extra day of rest, lost a chance at a second straight win when the Braves scored twice in the eighth inning for a 3-2 victory Sunday in Atlanta. He allowed just one more hit in six innings after a first-pitch homer by Kelly Johnson. Hernandez is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three career starts against the Nationals, with the loss coming last season.

Game 3: Matt Chico, (0-1, 7.27) vs. John Maine, RHP (1-0, 1.54)
Nationals: Chico will face the Mets for the first time in his career. In his last start, Chico reported to work with a bad cold. He first started feeling under the weather on Monday morning, but it grew worse during the flight to Atlanta. Somehow, he didn't pitch as though he was under the weather on Tuesday. Chico lasted 4 2/3 innings and gave up four runs -- but just one earned -- on six hits against the Braves. He should have lasted longer, but his defense betrayed him in the fifth inning.
Mets: Maine wasn't nearly as sharp in his second start of the season as he was in his first, battling through a frigid afternoon in New York's home opener on Monday. The young right-hander allowed two runs in a brief 4 2/3-inning stint -? not terrible, considering he also walked six batters on the day. Maine has already faced the Nationals four times in his brief career, posting a 1-1 record and a 5.82 ERA.

Mod, sticky?

Anyways nice to see we got one. Shawn Hill pitched real well, and Dmitri hit a nice shot to start our nice offensive game off.
