Dumb. This is similar to the Stevenson situation with the Wizards IMO. What happens if Nick Johnson is healthy next year? Dmitri becomes a $5mill bench guy?

I like Dmitri and all that he went through to get to this point but honestly, his career is coming to an end soon. We need to be signing young players and develop them. Dmitiri is just a "rental" kind of player who just adds veteran leadership to the clubhouse.

We really needed to trade him for prospects but that wont happen now. Besides, Jim Bowden's asking prices for trades are ridiculous.

Who knows, it's never happened before.

I can't claim to be pleased by this piece of news, Dimitri has been wonderful so far this year but this year's accomplishments are out of line with anything we can expect from him going forward. This is like the Stevenson signing both in that it really shouldn't have been done but also in that it's a mistake the team will be able to recover from, plus everybody does love Dimitri, and he can't get any slower.

I think that is a key part to the resigning. He is a fan favorite and with a new stadium next year we're going to need a "face" to market with it and I think that'll be Dmitri.

I will be very happy if he resigns and I think it is key that he does resign especially for the casual fan.

Dmitri NO test the open market please . I think Bowden is going to F this franchise up even worse than it already is.

I saw a number that Dmitri will be getting 8 million next year? I'm really worried about the Nats every being able to contend with moves like that.

2 yr/$10 million contract so its $5 million per. Nick Johnson has never been able to stay healthy for a full season so why not get some insurance? Besides, if Dimitri continues to hit the ball well, there's always the chance that the Nationals trade Johnson for some mid-level prospects anyway.

Nationals are going to have to spend money one way or another, this extension seems like a safer investment over the 35 year old players that will be available this offseason.

He's too old. His game will drop next year.
