The Savior is Drafted? And who at ten?

MLB Draft time. Strasburg and then who?

Thomas Boswell of the Washington Post today says draft Strasburg...but don't treat him as the savior..

Of all the pitchers ever picked No. 1 overall since 1965, here are the best: Andy Benes, Mike Moore, Floyd Bannister and Tim Belcher, all 150-150 types. The list of flops, like Boras client Brien Taylor, a lefty who never reached Yankee Stadium, is much longer. In fact, to find a great pitcher in the draft, you have to go all the way to a No. 18 overall choice: Roger Clemens. The list of Hall of Fame hitters picked earlier is at least 20.

Despite this, I'm a Strasburg booster, if the price isn't totally loony.

Well, despite this, I'm still treating Strasburg as the savior, as are thousands of Washingtonians.

Much more fun to be hopeful.

And almost as important, who do the nats get at #10? Alot of good names out there...

Drew Storen with the 2nd pick (10th pick in 1st round)...

Storen, who is expected to sign soon, ends his two-year Stanford career with a 12-4 win-loss record and an ERA of 3.64 in 59 appearances. He struck out 116 batters, walking 23 in 99 innings pitched. Storen was 7-1 this past season with seven saves. He had eight saves last year, earning freshman All-America honors as the Cardinal advanced to the College World Series. Storen saved both games in the super regional at Cal State Fullerton and got a win at the CWS against Florida State. This season, Stanford failed to make the NCAA tournament for the second time in the past three years.

"We didn't have the year we quite expected," Storen said. "But both years were a great experience for me. I'm glad I came to Stanford."

Storen was drafted out of Brownsburg High by the New York Yankees in the 34th round of the 2007 draft but didn't sign.

"The negotiations weren't serious when I was drafted by the Yankees," Storen said. "Not signing with the Yankees was a great decision, but it was a good learning experience. I plan on getting my degree in product design at some point."

Storen, a collector of bobbleheads, made a bobblehead liking of himself in junior high school.

"I hope to have a bobblehead of me if I make it to Washington," Storen said. "I'm sure it will be a lot nicer than the one I made of myself."

Storen became Stanford's 23rd first-round draft pick, but he is the first Cardinal closer to go in the first round.
