I like the moves Nuggets made this offseason but i still think that there is one major issue that still needs to be addressed. Its rim protection/help defense. Aaron Gordon has disappointed me as a defender and id like to see him replaced by someone at least more energetic.

Again i think that Nerlens Noel would we a really interesting addition to the Nuggets. He could potentially be a good fit next to Jokic as a PF and if it doesnt work he can always be a good backup C.
On offense he would be a vertical spacer from the dunker spot, rim roller, cutter and finisher around the rim. On D he would be the weakside help defender that we desperately need. The only issue is can he guard wings full time.

What do you think of trading for Noel?

Zero chance... he's not a starter and too expensive to be a backup C

Why do you think he isnt a starter? If its because he cant score, i bet that next to Jokic he could easily put 10+ ppg while providing great rim protection/help defense.

Yup, can't shoot can't score, the Nuggets would be playing 4 on 5 every offensive possession. So at best he's a bench player, but too expensive and would be taking minutes away from Zeke who probably has much higher ceiling anyway.

Noel has stated in less than half of his games and only his first two seasons and his first season in New York has he started over half of his games. He IS NOT a starter.

He can't shoot 3's or anywhere close to that - middle would be clogged for drivers and cutters and Jokic's low posts.
He only gets 6 boards per game - not good enough for a non-scorer (less than 5 pts per game lately).
His best seasons for blocks were 2.4, 1.9, 1.1 and down for less than 1 per game for his career - NOT impressive.

While I'm not a Noel fan either, I do agree with Alatan that we do need more rim protection. Think we may get it next year with Kamagate, hopefully he's ready by then.

If you look into our tracking stats our biggest defensive issues are in the long 2s and in points off turnovers both of which are worse than rim protection as those are both effort and talent or lack of talent.

We are 5th worst in the league for opponent points off turnovers, which is a guard problem more than anything. NOt only did Barton, Campazzo, and a lot of the others not fight over screens, on turnovers they just let the play go. Their reaction to a turnover was basically half assing it to go get the ball and bring it out of bounds never even trying to make a defensive play.

Our defense is designed to give up long 2s, if they make it around Jokic's hedge than a forward is supposed to come provide help defense at the rim, leaving the long 2 open if the guard has not recovered. Having guards fighting over screens harder will help, but that is far from the worst thing in the world.

While we are bottom 5 in shooting percentage allowed at the rim I think we get better by getting healthy and the fact is we only allowed the 12th most points within 6 feet in the league, so it is not like we are getting destroyed in the paint most nights. MPJ (despite his issues against guards) and NNaji both are good help defenders. In 2020-2021 MPJ allowed 57% shooting within 6 feet, that is better than the best team in the league last year. The thing about it is that for all the hype of basketball fans, despite teams trying like hell to spam the pick and roll against Jokic, Jokic's ability to deflect, steal, and just force guys to stop is a bigger deal than having a shot blocker that brings nothing else on the court with him.

We got destroyed in the playoffs by guys not fighting over screens, then when Gordon was moved to guard Curry we had forwards that did not make their rotations. If we fix that and have guards willing to run back and defend on turnovers leaving our only problem is that we are average against points allowed in the paint I am perfectly fine with that. Kamagate will help fix that in a year.

+11 pounds is a notable change. Seems that we have another gym fanatic (together with MPJ, Gordon, and Cancar).

NBA Increases 23-24 Salary Cap Projection To $134M
SEP 9, 2022 4:21 PM

The NBA has informed teams that its current projection for the 23-24 season has increased by $1 million to $134 million.

A $134 million is $10.4 million higher than the salary cap for the 22-23 season.

The tax level is projected at $162 million based on the $134 million salary cap.

This is very good news for a team with one supermax contract and two max contracts!

At least one good thing we can thanx to the 2022 global inflation problem
