Jazz win and Denver would face Suns or SA. Jazz loss and they'd get the ROCKETS.

But I'm not sure how much incentive the Jazz have to win the game.

NBA doesn't reseed that's why Utah played the 8th seed Warriors in the second round.

Denver/Lakers play Rockets/Jazz regardless of the outcome of the other series.

The post was referring to the Spurs/Jazz game on Wednesday that pretty much determined the seeding from 3-6.

With the exception of the thread that's 15 pages longer, right above it? Or are you arguing that that doesn't count?

It would have been a bit closer if it would have kept being used for its original purpose, and I don't really think last nights game counted much even though I posted. It didn't seem to me like anyone stood out over anyone else.

What are the odds of landing in the top 3? I know they are slim? Has it ever been done where the team that was supposed to get the 14th pick actually moved up to take the first pick?

I don't think the 14th slot has ever won any of the top 3 picks (which are the only picks you can move up to in the lotto). I've seen it stated that it's 0.5% to move up on each pick (from the 14th), which the way the odds chain ends up being something like a 1.8% chance to move up into the top 3. In other words, a very long shot, but not so long that it's unthinkable. It will probably happen once in a lifetime.

I ran the draft lotto 100 times for giggles and the Warriors moved up once... to #1  That would be so funny. But really you can pencil them in at #14. At least GS fans won't have to watch much of that awful lottery show, since they start with the 14th pick.

You can always make a trade to move up or down. I knew it was the top 3 or bust, but I was wondering if a team ever moved up to take the first spot.

I googled the NBA draft lottery odds and found myself on wikpedia of all places, but it has a nice chart, graph, odds, etc... The chart/graph is pretty interesting. It shows the odds of being able to move up and down. Like the team with the second worst record can drop no lower than 5th pick (and the odds of that happening). It does that for every pick. For your pick, the 14th pick, The odds of keeping that pick are .982 to 1. The chance of moving to the top spot are .005 to 1. To move up to the 2nd spot is .006 to 1 and for 3rd .007 to 1. So, I think it is pretty safe to assume that the 14th pick is yours.

Here is the link to it if you want to check it out.
