Delonte West

Post#1 » by mlagoa » Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:31 pm

at wiretap:

Sources said the Cavs still want to bring Delonte West back but Wednesday's acquisition of Mo Williams increases the chances that he will take the qualifying offer of $2.8 million for one season.

Nuggets have 2.8M for offer to West!?

IMO Delonte would be great for nuggs ... right?

The qualifying offer is only good from the Cavs, otherwise West is a restricted free agent, and the Cavs have a right to match any offer. If $2.8 could get a deal done with west without the Cavs matching I am sure the Nuggets would be trying to sign the guy.

Cavs fan here- I think this doesn't change much with Delonte and the Cavs unless someone gives him so good money (i.e. full to almost full MLE). if it's around 4 mil starting I think the Cavs match. He can back up PG and play SG so he is still useful for us.

West is an upgrade, but not enough to lead this team. I say we just save the money and wait for our chance to sign someone who brings more to the table.

we can only get Delonte via a S&T. we dont have any CAP/room to offer him what he wants so that the Cavs wont match it.

Maybe we could get Delonte if we offered LK.

Well from a Cavs perspective i would take LK but i don't know his game too well.... but i'm not sure you guys or your fo would do that. weren't they really high on lk? i guess they could decide between LK and JR for the wing opposite of melo and they pick JR..

You would offer our 6th man for a guy that won't start and will be the 3rd PG because of GK's crush on Carter?

LK isn't our 6th man, and with Balkman filling a much bigger need than LK, Linas is likely to get his minutes cut further. West would be more useful. I don't think even Karl would be stupid enough to play Carter over him. I could be wrong though.

Isn't Kleiza primarily a SF? Cavs would want a PF or C in return for West if they trade him, and trading West is not a lock to happen. If they wanted someone who'd play the wing, they'd much rather have Smith (not saying Denver would agree to that).

The Nuggets would rather have Lebron James (not saying that the Cavs would agree to that), either way West is not enough to get you either Kleiza or JR, especially with the new contract he seems to want.

Klieza plays anywhere from the 2-4. He gets his minutes either backing up Melo, playing the 2 if the Nuggets go big, or playing the 4 if they go small. If he is able to get PT in Denver (who has a pretty good SF as well) he would get PT in cleveland.

That being said, I agree West probably isn't enough to get the Cavs LK.

Since West played solidly for the CAVs at PG after he was acquired and through the playoffs where he was outstanding against the Celtics -- what do you guys feel Denver has to offer to get him in a S&T then given that JR Smith and LK are untouchable according to some previous posts?

Why a S&T?

I think the Nuggets have enough of the MLE left to just sign him. Or someone correct me if that's wrong.

Denver would probably just sign him outright, or use the trade exception and a 1st to get him away from the Cavs. As for LK being untouchable, I do not think that is true, but it will take more then a free agent West to get him.

Delonte would fit well with AI in the back. I think Delonte and Livingston are the only 2 options.

Just like JR Smith's situation -- if Denver thought that the CAVs wouldn't match an MLE -- they would have made the offer to Delonte West too.

Not exactly. The Denver FO doesn't seem to know what they are doing, and I don't see the Cavs matching a full MLE deal when they already have Gibson and Mo now. Nor do I see Denver wanting to do that.

Not quote, how many rumors have you seen with the Nuggets looking at adding any salary this year? If they make another move or decide they want to spend more money I am sure they may look at a guy like West, but they have not done so at this point.

Linas Kleiza for Delonte West? Seriously... If anyone would make this trade, he should stop watching basketball because he is so fcking dumb. I mean it. Stop watching basketball because you don't **** know what is it about.

Well, I know in US there are lot of people who doesn't respect EURO ball at all. Check the results of last WC and Olympics. You can argue about this year. But this US Team is the closest thing to Dream team, even I still hate to call them so. The original was made of players, who were already legends. This team is full of legends to become. Point is, I watched the Lithuania vs Croatia game. Linas hit 4 three pointers at last quarter. Three of them in defenders face... Giving up on him for NOBODY as Delonte is... I mean it's just racist. You can't seriously say you would give up on player that good, with his attitude, for such a less talent.
