Minnesota @ Denver - Preseason

Post#1 » by eathy » Sat Oct 11, 2008 1:42 am

It's only preseason i know...

up 26-21 in first Q. Melo is out with injury.

AI 5 assists.
Nene 6/5
LK 2/4
KMart 8/3
JR 5 points, 1 steal, 1 assist, 1 TO in just under 5 minutes.
Birdman with 3 boards.

Anthony Carter 2 points, 2 TOs, 0 dimes. Playing good D on Telfair/Foye i guess... but netherless JR is 10x better right now.

Nuggets' forward Carmelo Anthony is questionable for the team's preseason opener against the Timberwolves on Friday night.

Anthony injured the finger while having the ball slapped from his hand during practice Thursday. He had the hand wrapped up Friday at practice, but X-rays were negative.

Nevermind! lol

Edit: Wish the game was on TV.... :(

well we ended up thrashing the T'Pups.

I'm impressed with Birdman, Balkman, and Nene. Why didn't Karl use Balk more? The guy is a defensive beast.

Birdman got a double double with 12 and 11. JR Smith lit it up with 21 points, but a pretty bad FG% (6 for 16).

JR and AI are chuckers without Melo.

My cut list:
Anthony Carter, Mateen Cleaves, Nick Fazekas, James Mays
Juwan Howard and Ruben join cut list if FO are stingy.

Start JR, Smush Parker at the point when AI goes to the 2. He's the best PG we've had since Blake.

i went, because it was the only way to watch.

some thoughts...
anthony carter is still terrible. my heart sunk about 15 stories when his name came up in the starting lineup.
nene looked solid, but for whatever reason still seems incapable of rebounding. nice to see someone set a real pick on the team though.
balkman looked really good defensively...came out of nowhere for a couple steals and was a general nuisance to the wolves.
andersen could be big for us on the boards this year. pre-game he was circling the arc and hitting 3's at a 40-50% clip. i like the idea of having the birdman, balkman & kmart on the frontline...we could pester the **** out of teams, change momentum in games, create offense through deflections/steals...etc.
jr's still jr for the most part. got his head turned a couple times defensively and/or was caught in mis-communications. fouled a 3 point shooter. took some contested shots he could have passed up. but also made scoring look easy. he played a lot of point this game which was interesting....bringing the ball up the court, making the first pass into the offense or immediately going p&r. hopefully a sign of things to come.
patteron's still intent on throwing the ball at the rim anytime he's within 15 feet of the basket, regardless of how many (taller) people are around him.

good amount of team energy defensively for the whole game. they seemed to be working specifically on doubling the post immediately (before even a dribble), and rotating out of it.

smush is way better than AC.

shooting - better.
defense - better.
passing - better.

only thing AC has over him is that he's a character guy.

I thought Iverson would get around 15 or so points this game but he only managed to get 5 points. At least he got 9 assists.

Other guys in the team really played well especially JR Smith. He showed what he is capable of and that he can become a starter for the Nuggets.

corona was KMart shooting 3s in the warmups?

only a couple, just screwing around.

shooting - better.
defense - better.
passing - better.

smush is not a better defender than carter. not to mention he's an awful decision maker for a pg....he came into this game and basically threw 3 consecutive turnovers. how can you play 30mpg next to kobe and only average 2.8 assists? that says something.

Who's #41?

james mays. won't make the team.

I would demand a full pre-season of decent games before I would even think of bringing in Smush. One game, with a decent assist/turnover ratio does not impress me.

Return to Denver Nuggets
