Kleiza contract not extended

Post#1 » by DaFan334 » Sat Nov 1, 2008 4:49 pm

Looks like it fell through... Not too sure this is all that good as we will have competition resigning him. At least we have his bird rights but that was a poor mistake by the front office in my opinion.

apparently he wanted over 6.25 million a season. that's too much for a player of kleiza's caliber...even a young one that works hard.
webster & maxiell both got 4 years, 20 million. considering he'll never be a starter on this team, lk's not worth more than them.

he's too limited offensively, isn't a good enough shooter, doesn't have the lateral quickness to be a good defensive player and hasn't shown enough consistency.

in general you can find a solid backup SF on the FA market in any summer for under the MLE. i'd rather have to do that in a few summers than be cash straped with shortages at other important positions (true backup big men, a legit pg)

Kleiza would need a breakout year this year to earn that much and he may not play with that much confidence if he's worrying about a huge contract so early after letting Marcus go. That man was worth 10 mil and he was let go. Little hint that they may be open to keeping Kleiza but not at that price, right now.

I'm with you all the way this time, corona.

LK can be a decent contributor, but not for what he wanted. His shot isn't consistent, which severely diminishes his value. His confidence is easily rattled. I guess you could say the same about JR a year ago, but JR's potential was there because of his talent. LK's talent is limited.

6.25 is starter, maybe 6th man money. LK is neither. If I had things my way, he would be traded while his value is so overrated. Still, the Nuggets were smart to hold off on that money. His price will likely fall. Worst case, we end up paying the same amount this off season. There's no way his value goes up.

With JR moving into a starting role (at least I would assume so, although you never really know wtf is going to happen with Karl at the helm), it would be nice for the Nuggets to hold on to Kleiza as long as possible. Who is going to score off the bench without Kleiza? Chucky Atkins? Steven Hunter (lol)?

This speaks to the self-discipline Billups was talking about. Kleiza may be concerned about what kind of contract he's going to get instead of putting in the work so he has as much leverage as possible.

Dude needs to just continue what he was doing last year and improve on it and realize his time will come when it's time. Right now is time for basketball.

How about dealing LK to the Pacers. Since he's the best player in this idea, we make them take on Hunter's contract too.

LK & Hunter

FOR

Foster & Graham

Now that the Dice buyout is official, we'd resign Howard, and our depth would look like:

Billups/AC/Atkins
JR/Jones/Graham
Melo/Balkman/Weems
KMart/Birdman/Howard
Nene/Foster/Samb

Foster gives us a legit backup big man who can play PF and C. It also rids us of Hunter's contract.

Posted this in a couple places, but would you guys do something like Kleiza, Atkins, and Anderson for Bargnani? We badly need someone who can score at all at the 3 and a backup PG, that would give us both, Anderson would be needed to fill our thin frontcourt.

I won't, we don't need bargani on this team and it seems like he has hit his ceiling, i would give you atkins and hunter for him though.

About klieza not getting extended i have to say the front office made the right decision thus far, make him earn it and set his own market value because for 6 mil per for a back up sf is a little too much to give up for him, i personally think klieza already has hit his ceiling and won't improve any more and to top that off he's playing behind melo so he doesn't deserve that much money on this team that he has zero chance of starting on.
