Melo returns to practice court

Post#1 » by Shady08 » Fri Jan 23, 2009 4:28 am

The workout was Anthony’s first since breaking a bone in his right (shooting) hand on Jan. 5.

"It’s feeling a lot better," he said. "I was surprised to be able to go out there and do what I did today. It’s just motivation now."

Though X-rays taken Thursday showed that the bone is healing quicker than expected, Anthony still is targeting next Friday’s game against Charlotte for his return.

"I’m still looking at the 30th," he said. "I don’t want to try to push it."

Glad he isn't pushing to get back either.

Although, the bone spurs.. isn't that something that won't heal until he has surgery or can they get better with rest?

Bone spurs.....even if you take em out they can grow back. Increased sodium in the diet can maybe break down the calcium.....but, that's not really a solution. Is bone spurs what Melo has? Thought he had stress fracture, which of course with his body type probably heals 100 and quite quickly - given he slows down like he has and lets it heal.

-edit- I didn't know about the spur in each elbow, but it sounds like he may want to do some swimming rehab or yoga over the summer to take stress off his joints for an extended period of time

What we do know about Melo is he's been non-stop for several years now and he does get fouled a lot without calls and recently he's taken hard falls. That would seem to increase the chances of spurs for any athlete.

What you mostly want to do is increase overall body strength to take pressure off the affected areas....because that pain is usually there to stay.

Yeah, Melo doing Yoga. I bet he takes a charge before he ever does the downward dog.

The downward dog? I'm thinking more like the breast stroke.
