Anthony Carter "AC"

Post#1 » by dunleavyjr » Mon Jun 1, 2009 2:25 am

This is Anthony Carter's last season with the Nuggets. He will be a free agent
during the Summer. Are you folks gonna keep him for next season, or just let
him walk?

AC made $3 million this past season. You folks can sign him using veteran minimum.
Not a good scorer, but he is a very good ball handler, a great hustle defender.

Think about it over the Summer.

I believe Anthony Carter made 1,260,000 this/last season. I’d like to see that money go to Sani Becirovic next season. But would welcome AC back… my issue is his role is too big on the team.
Sani is an offensive machine in Europe. Great outside shot. And if you close out on him too quick… or he gets a screen Sani has this impressive running mid range jump shot that is deadly.

note: Becirovic's rights are held by the Nuggets.

Just like Boykins, Carter is a decent role player when used correctly, but with the love Karl gives him he needs to go elsewhere.

+1
AC, Boykins and Steve Blake were all good backup point guards until Karl tried to turn them into something more than that.

I doubt any other team is going to offer AC more than a vet minimum contract. And because we won't do anything with our draft pick and will be desperate to fill out the roster, I think AC will be back next season.

Same thing could be said for Dahntay Jones.

AC needs 25-30 minutes to be effective, and at the vet minimum he is the best bargain in the NBA. He should have been named to the all defensive first team, but his limited minutes kept him from getting it. The Nuggets have made the playoffs and improved as a team every year that he has been here.

I agree! And Karl benched him this year! Denver doesn't deserve him. He should be traded to a team that will appreciate his talent and give him big minutes. And damn the fans on this board. How dare you speak badly of AC! He is a warrior on the court. He battles hard!!! Melo that ball hog doesn't pass the ball to him enough either. On a new team without Melo, AC would win MVP and a title!!!

The post above mine was too, I just made it more obvious. That's pretty much how the AI fans acted whenever someone criticized him on here.

We need to let him go. He has no offensive ability, his shot sucks, and all he really offers are occasional good lobs. Most of the time he is trying to push the tempo when it doesn't need to be and countless times throws the ball up court recklessly for a fastbreak layup that ends up out of bounds. He hustles on defense but goes for the steal way to often and severely hinders the team on the offensive end. Not to mention GK loves sucking off AC and giving him WAY too many minutes. GO GO WEEMS!!!

Did I miss a season?

...?

The point a few posts above is a good one - all of our backup pgs have been good/great for that role, but then overused, and/or used at the wrong times. Seems like simple math to me - we need a backup pg that can be extended in that way and keep performing, or, the one overusing him - we need a new one of him. To solve the backup pg issue.

Unless......I may have missed a season here. For shame.

I think the in bounding pass interception killed his return. We also won the only games in the series that he played only 6 minutes in. If hes back it would have to be in a 3rd point guard roll if anything, which I doubt he would accept because he probably could go elsewhere and be a decent backup. We need a younger guy to mold under Chauncey. If Jones is leaving, expect us to maybe look for a combo guard who can defend very well and hit the 3. Charlie Bell from Milwaukee might not be a bad fit and then a rookie point guard.
