Two Proposals to Launch the Nuggets

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Sat Aug 29, 2009 3:00 am

Hey all, Nets/Mavericks fan here.

I have been tinkering with a couple of proposals on the Trades and Transactions board, and I wanted to see what you thought of them. Please respond thoughtfully and objectively, so I can get a proper read on your fanbase's overall perspective.

Trade I: TPE/1st for S-Jax
Stephen Jackson recently revealed in an interview that he has asked the Warriors' front office to trade him. While many teams can offer expiring contract for his services, Denver is one of the very few teams that can offer IMMEDIATE cap savings, via their TPE. A future 1st (top-20 protected) is added to sweeten the deal. I know that JR is the future at SG, but if his recent and long-term track record is any indication, the Nuggets would be better suited relying on a veteran who has a ring, and is hungry for another.

Trade II: Martin/Lawson for Brand/Holiday
Similar to the Okafor/Chandler deal, this seemingly unbalanced deal helps relieve long-term cap pressure for the Sixers. Thaddeus will look to sign an extension next summer, and even when healthy, Brand has not meshed with their young lineup. K-Mart would provide a more athletic option up front, and Tywon is a far better fit that Jrue for their needs: shooting, transition offense and court vision. Holiday can be brought along slowly alongside fellow Bruin Afflalo, and learn from another rugged guard who wasn't ready to excel in the NBA from day one. Absorbing Brand's long and pricey contract would be a gamble, but I believe he can bounce back to form in a system that better suits his strengths, like yours.

After both trades, your lineup looks ready to challenge absolutely any team in the league.

Billups, Jackson, Anthony, Brand, Nene
Carter, Afflalo, Smith, Balkman, Andersen

lawson isn't going anywhere. It seems pretty clear the 76ers would like to move Brand's contract. After thinking about it I'm in favor of the Kmart for Brand straight deal which we've talked about before. I'd be all for the Nuggets using their TPE. Not sure if Jackson will mend fences with the Warriors or what they'd want for him.

Trade 1 - god no.
Why do we need to throw in the 1st? IF anything they should be throwing in an unprotected 1st or Azubuike/Wright back at us for taking such an atrocious contract/player who is a terrible fit.

Trade 2 - no. Would do this 5 years ago though.

Agreed, there is no way Denver is going to take back Jacksons contract, without some serious incentive.

As for JR's recent and long term track record, he has done nothing that I consider bad since the accident that killed his best friend, and that has got him suspended. Not that big of a deal.

I don't think you can really defend J.R., he is a **** idiot. Though I wouldn't say a bad person.

But when put into this context....Stephen **** Jackson? So um...where was the OP going with that again?

I think the only way the Warriors are trading Jackson is if he goes to a Eastern Conference. And even then, Don Nelson is attached to most of his players.
I say Jackson goes to the Heat for Beasley.

TPE + a pick probably can get Jackson. If there was a way to trade JR Smith, somewhere, the idea could work. As is, I doubt the Nugs spend the TPE.

Obviously Miami won't give Beasley for Jackson, and Miami is thinking Free Agents so might not do Haslem. GSW would rather trade Jackson to the East, no doubt. Orlando makes sense.

Do we have an potential capspace for 2011?

If not, then I like the 2nd deal, if Brand is totally healthy and everything. Could give us a real legit post scorer. Not sure how he'd fit in with Nene though.
