Wally turns down 1.4 mil

On realgm.....the league minimum for a player of his experience. I know we ain't paying him anywhere near what he earned last season, but what do you think he could make?

I figure if he does accept a lower contract he could fill a huge need on our team and project his salary out much better in his remaining years, but then teams would see that he is willing to take less. What is the minimum the guy should take.....and really what is he worth?

It is pretty odd. I'm sure he knows he wont get more than the minimum, so I doubt it was a money issue. We also have to be one of the best fits as far as being able to give him playing time. And it's not like we're a **** team.

My only guess be he wants to wait until after the deadline to sign and find some championship contender to ride the coat tails of(like all the vets do with Boston every year). But again, it's not like we're any less of a contender than 90% of the other teams. So who knows.

Cavs fan here. Some fans are speculating that Wally may be waiting to be used by the Cavs ala Keith Van Horn a few years ago. The Cavs would sign Wally to a larger deal, and trade him away as an expiring/savings for another team. In order to combine Wally in a trade, I believe the Cavs would have to sign him early on (you can't add players in a sign and trade), so we'll see what happens. I can't fathom why Wally would turn down guaranteed money from a legitimate Western Conference contender otherwise. It'd make sense for Wally (more money), and it'd make sense for the Cavs (be a nice trade asset in addition to Z's expiring, who they'd rather not trade; plus, owner Dan Gilbert is more than willing to spend any money necessary for the organization). Many Cavs fans were speculating about this for much of the offseason, and this is the first "proof" that there may be something to the idea.

Makes sense.....it's not like he hasn't averaged over 7 million every season combined and can't wait a few months. His skills will definitely not be unneeded in the latter half of the season.

I like Graham's latest surge & good shooting touch AA has and more this upcoming season. But when it comes to crunch time we need back up SF with reliable outside range to spread the floor to be able to play crush ball.

Always hated Wally when he was with Timb's along with KG when played against us. As a player i got lot of respect for his skill level and bball IQ. I would love to see us getting him, he got good couple years left in him.
