Questions for Nuggets fans regarding fantasy basketball

Post#1 » by Kirsten19 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 2:11 pm

I have both Afflalo and Ty Lawson as thelast two picks in my team. And i am thinking of dropping one of them for another player. Who shall i drop?

The following is my team(14 teams H2H, 1st pick overall):

Kevin Durant - SF
Al Horford - PF/C
Monta Ellis - PG/SG
Brandon Jennings - PG
Roy Hibbert - C
Demarcus Cousins - PF/C
Robin Lopez - PF/C
Niclas Batum - SG/SF
Austin Daye - SF
DJ Augustin - PG
Darko Milicic - PF/C
Aaron Afflalo - SG
Ty Lawson - PG

doesnt seem like i have enough assists. But Lawson's minutes/playing time will be limited as long as Billups is arround..........am i correct? and whats ur expectations on him this season? His expected playing time for example?

Aaron Afflalo impresses me a lot in the preseason games. I think he can provide good numbers in FT%, 3s, stls and pts. But his stats during the 09/10 season were just ok, not fantasy material at least. Whats do u guys expect from him? One advantage of Afflalo is that he actually has more playing time than Ty Lawson.

but considering my team's need, who shall i drop??

Of course I am going to over-value two of the Nuggets favorite players, but if it were me, I would keep both of those guys over Jennings. Jennings will get more assists and likely more points, but Lawsome will take the percentage categories over him. Afflalo is pretty solid in all area's, and I expect his numbers to look even better this year.

As for Lawsome's minutes they are going to go up this year. The coach has already said that he will have a much more expanded role on the team this year.

I hope this helps, good luck with your team.

Depending on who you are planning to pick up, I think I would drop augustin or Batum before I would drop either Afflalo or Lawson.

Afflalo is primed to have a big year and has put up 20, 4, and 3 with a steal a game, which while those numbers will come down some in the regular season, point to him having a much better year this year then last. He has improved dramatically on offense, so he should give decent scoring, he is also a decent rebounder and passer for a SG, plus he will likely get more minutes (I would guess somewhere around 28 mpg) this season as the Nuggets do not really have a backup SF and Melo has already said he expects to have to play some minutes at PF, so Afflalo and Jr will both spend plenty of time on the court. Given his shooting averages and all around game I think he is a pretty good end of the draft pick. Now once the Nuggets trade Melo, unless they get a really good SG or SF Afflalo will probably have to play 35 minutes a night and his numbers will climb higher, but I would expect if you are in a somewhat knowledgeable league he will be picked up pretty quickly if you drop him.

Lawson also had a good summer, and is currently projected to play 28 mpg with Chauncey splitting time between PG and SG. I fully expect Lawson to put up somewhere 12ppg and 5 ast with low turnovers, a couple of 3s per game and high shooting percentages. Not a great PG but acceptable for a 3rd pg.

The reasons I say to dump Batum is because he is not and never will be a great option in my mind for fantasy basketball. Batum is a very good defensive player that will never be more then the 4th option on the court, much like Bruce Bowen was for years. He will give you good shooting percentages but does not shoot enough to have much of an affect, he is also limited in stats like Steals, rebounds, and assists. Not to mention the Trailblazers have plenty of depth at SF, which could cut into his minutes, I expect him to get a little more then last year, but not enough to put up large numbers.

Augustine scares me, I do not like the system he is in, as Brown's system does not seem to allow PGs to shoot at high percentages, and assists always seem to be limited as Brown preaches ball movement. Add to that Augustine already regressed last year, and Brown has reportedly been complaining about his lack of a starting PG, and I would worry about his minutes. I can see Brown yoyoing his minutes with Livingston for the 1st couple of months, or until Brown convinces the Bobcats to trade for a starting PG that he likes.
