Keep or trade Brewer?

Post#1 » by Ice32 » Sun Jul 1, 2012 11:51 pm

Brewer is playing for a contract extension this season and he was a pleasant surprise last season and filled in nicely when Gallo was injured. He provided a spark off the bench and became one of GKs favourites at the end of the season.

With a healthy Wilson Chandler on board, minutes for Brewer at the 3 spot may be scarce, so I'd assume that Brewer is going to be the primary backup to Afflalo. But with the possible return of Andre Miller, and GKs love for 2 PG small ball - this could be detrimental to Brewer's playing time and productivity.

Brewer averaged 22 mpg last season and I can see that dropping to under 16 mpg this season. Unless Chandler is involved in a trade, then Brewer wont be playing many minutes with this current roster. Maybe he should be moved which would allow Jordan Hamilton to get more time and develop quicker?

Here are some possible suitors for Corey Brewer:

Send him to the Lakers for the L Odom TPE - frees up cash for Denver

Send him to Orlando for the B Bass TPE - frees up cash for Denver

Trade him to OKC for Daequan Cook - Gives Denver a 3 Point Shooter

Thoughts? Will he be needed in Denver this season with Gallo, Afflalo & Chandler on the roster?

the Lakers have much bigger needs then a backup 3 right now.

Orlando is more then likely about to explode their team, doubt the touch Brewer.

No way in hell would I trade Brewer to the thunder for Cook.

I think if anybody is moved it will be Chandler, especially if Jordan Hamilton and Quincy Miller look good over the next few weeks. Gives them the young depth now, and can have Hamilton, Quincy Miller, and Fournier (when he comes over) fighting for minutes in 2013-2014 with Brewer having expired.

Word is that the Lakers aren't bringing back Matt Barnes and MWP could be traded, so the 3 spot is short over there.

Wilson Chandler being moved makes sense, which would allow Brewer to back up Gallo and spend some time at the 2 behind Afflalo. I can't see Hamilton/Miller getting many minutes this season unless there is an injury.

In a way, I hope Andre Miller decides to go elsewhere to.

I say we let Brewer,Harrington, Anderson go. This should be our ideal minute distribution next season, but depends on who we get to play point. Lets just say Fournier proves he can play point for now.

Ty Lawson(33)/Evan Fournier(15)
Arron Afflalo(33)/Jordan hamilton(12)/Evan Fournier(3)
Danilo Gallinari(33)/Wilson Chandler(7)/Jordan Hamilton(8)
Kenneth Faried(30)/Wilson Chandler(18)
Javale Mcgee(30)/Mozgov(9)/Kosta Koufos(9)

Let Brewer, Harrington, Anderson go for what? Trade 'em for a back up PG and/or 3 Point Shooter?

With these minutes, I think the team gets weaker with Hamilton/Fournier and Chandler as main back-ups.

Looks like Andre Miller is back - 3 years at 3 million per season which is a bargain. Changes development for young guys though.

Only place Fournier will see18 MPG is in France...Unless some bodies are shipped out I doubt Denver signs him this year, they'll just retain his rights and keep him overseas.

I'd rather Hamilton fight Brewer for a rotation spot and when he does that, then we trade Brewer at the deadline.

I can imagine the effort from Hamilton now, summer league, training camp and pre-season will be huge - because he wants minutes badly. But Brewer has the upper hand when it comes to experience, overall effort, defense and pure hustle. He does things that don't necessarily show up on the boxscore but contribute to wins. For Hamilton to beat out Brewer in the rotation, he will need to bust his butt off and impress GK big time.

Trading Brewer would seem to be a case of protecting Karl from himself. Definitely need Jordan Hamilton to get minutes, as he's at least shown the potential to hit outside shots.

Brewer is an energy guy, that is a good defender... that is not anything close to a decent outside shooter. Which wouldn't be such a big problem, if we didn't have dre as the backup pg and if chandler/gallo weren't such mediocre outside shooters as well. Really Afflalo and Ty are our best shooters.

If their shot is not falling, this is a very easy team to beat.
