Should Mcgee get traded.

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Sat Jan 12, 2013 8:38 am

Soon to be 25 year old center who is getting paid 11 million to play 15 minutes a game. I see Mcgee as a big problem for this team. When he plays well, we can all see the potential but this Denver teams needs a legit center that can bring it each and every night. Mcgee is not the answer and i don't think he ever will be. How many 25 year old centers just magically turn into a legit defensive force. Mcgee's defensive IQ is terrible. He tries to block everything and his rebounding is even worse(the guy literally never boxes out, he just jumps straight up). These are things he should have picked up by now. His offensive game is just horrible to look at, I literally cringe any time he gets the ball on the block. Mcgee should just be dumped at this point, get cap-space and make a run at a free-agent. Draft a center and see where the situation leads.

I'm fine with McGee.

The Nuggets are the best rebounding team in the league and all 3 bigs are very efficient in the paint, which is a recipe to go far in the playoffs.

It's the other positions with a bunch of problems, since the backups don't compliment the PG, SG and SF at all.

I'm also willing to say that the only reason why we don't have the worst bench in the league (of playoff teams) is because of the Miller-McGee combination.

You know if you want to trade someone there must be another team to want that player?
As Masai showed he isn't afraid to trade anyone who has just signed new contract and was told to be Nuggets future. If there is good offer he'll do it. But I doubt there is any.

Agreed, Miller and Mcgee are the reasons are bench is so productive, even in Brewer's good games much of it is due to defenses focusing on those two, not to mention Miller's passing.

Fact of the matter though is that I would be okay with trading anybody on the team right now if the package coming back was worthwhile, this is a talented young team but for whatever reason I don't see any of the reaching their true potential in their current roles.

Right now I have no complaints about McGee. But as I noted in another thread I don't think with this new CBA that we can overpay for bigs anymore. I think once Andre Miller is gone McGee might not look as valuable to other teams if he regresses.

I do think the GS Warriors would be interested in him.

Andre Miller is not going anywhere anytime soon. I can see him being as productive as he is for another 3-5 years. And for McGee, keep the man, he is going to be an all-star if he can learn to play 30+minutes consistently.

What free agent are we going to go after? What's the point of constantly creating cap room if you do nothing with it?

Sure you could dump Mcgee and use his cap-space to overpay someone else, but what good does that do?

Also correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure teams have to spend a minimum amount of cap money, if that's true the Nuggets gotta pay somebody and for now i'm fine with them paying Mcgee.

McGee is a project. We knew there would be some growing pains when we signed him to that contract and we're not going to know if he's worth it for at least a season or two. With said, we're never going to find out if he's worth it if he's barely playing 20 minutes a night.

There's no point in trading him now because we wont get anything of value. The investment has been made, might as well play him and see if it pans out.

If your agrument is McGee needs to play more that's cool... make that argument. But let's not pretend McGee doesn;t have trade value... he does. Ask the Warriors...

What is his trade value? Can't see a team throwing back a very good player back for him. Maybe they'd give up Bogut considering he's had injuries the last couple seasons, and is a free agent after next year. Not sure I'd do that unless Denver just wanted to shed some salary. Don't really see much reason to do so

What about trade with Mavs: Kaman, Dhantay Jones, Elton Brand and Dominique Jones for JaVale McGee, Wilson Chandler and Anthony Randolph. You gain massive amount of cap space and tax benefit for next Year and You will be under the cap in 2014 off-season to target big fish FA. Plus You still have rooster for this year and next year that is at bare minimum able to make it to play-offs.

You would have 28,5 mil of guaranteed contracts in 2014 off-season so leaving enough cap space to target 2 max players:

Gallinari
Faried
Koufos
Lawson
Hamilton
Fournier
Andre Miller

Which one of those guys helps now or in the future for the Nuggets? They are not going to make a trade to downgrade and take back all of some one elses crap just to save a few bucks.

And while max cap space is nice and all, max free agents don't really even bother to check into Denver.
