duo KK/McGee is undevalued

Post#1 » by mcmurphy » Sat Mar 9, 2013 5:45 pm

In my opinion the duo KK/McGee is widely undevalued...

at 13 ml/year we have

41mpg, fg 59%, 17.7 ppg, 11.3 reb, 3.5 blk, 1.8 to

only HOF as Shaq and Robinson put better numbers (with lower FG% and more turnovers).

So before to talk of trade KK or McGee I would think twice.

Koufos is a great value (underpaid) and McGee is overpaid. And if you are comparing you have to do it by minutes... your comparison does not work at all.

What would be fantastic would be if we keep Koufos & find a back up for 3 or 4 million as well. That'd be a bargain.

so you want to take the production of 2 players and compare it against one player and call it great? The number that is well above average is the fg% and the blocks, most teams get almost 18 ppg and 11.3 rebounds from a combo of bigs, does not make them great. In fact there are several combos of the 4 bigs from Utah that you can put together that get a ton more PPG and rebounds.

Now I will say for the money the Nuggets get good production, but neither one of the players for the Nuggets are what I would call greatly skilled on anything on the offensive end.

Tell me 41mpg of combo Center production better of

17.7 ppg, 11.3 reb, 3.5 blk, fg 59% and 1.8 to

Al Jefferson/Kanter?
good combo at 18 mln (14 mln Al J + 4 mln Kanter)

41mpg, 21.1 ppg, 11.7 reb, 1.4 blk, fg 51% and 2.4 to

However I prefer all the time 3 points less and 2 more block, exceptional efficiency and low turnovers.

Repeat these numbers are great numbers not average numbers for 41 mpg (at Center position)

imo

I don't know where you get the 18 minutes per game, as Jefferson is the starting center and Kanter is the primary backup center, and combined they average just over 48 mpg with only rarely being on the court together.

The exceptional efficiency comes from the fact that both McGee and Koufos get most of their points off of others creating the shots where both of them have over 70% of their shots assisted which also tremendously helps their turnovers as they only get the ball to finish. Jefferson and Kanter both have just over 50% of their shots created for them meaning they can and do create their own shots.

As for the blocks, sure the blocks work somewhat for intimidation, but shot blocking in my opinion is one of the most overrated stats in all of sports. Often the block does not stop the other team from scoring, or even result in your team getting the ball, it just delays it. Fans love the blocks but they usually do not have big effects on the scores.

18 millions... the salaries of AlJ/Kanter

Dwight Howard (considered the top center) has this year 70% of his shot assisted and a production per 41mins:

18.9 ppg, 14.1 reb (3.8 oreb), 2.8 blk, fg 57% and 3.4 to with a salary of 19.5 millions

You could say that it takes almost 2.5 more rebounds... sure, but 0.6 offensive rebound less and 1.5 turnovers more

Return to Denver Nuggets
