AA and Faried - Pay them NOW !

Post#1 » by skywalker33 » Sat Sep 20, 2014 3:31 am

Our two most important free agents looking to get paind. I hear Faried is now looking at the $13M range, bet that AA looking to get in the $12M. I say pay them now. Not because I want to go over the cap to keep our core in tact, just the opposite. With the impending Media contract, the cap is expected to increase immensely. In getting the contracts done now, we can save a huge amount in the future. M

Thoughts ?

Nice to see some activity again on the forums!! Yes it would be wise, but does having an increased cap increase the market value for a player? Does the increase cap increase the value of a max contract?

Afflalo does not seem to be interested in signing an extension, and with the hype Faried is getting from the way he ended last season and played in the FIBAs I think I would wait to sign him until next year when he is a restricted free agent. I do not think he is going to get a contract at max or near max, more likely somewhere around the 10-11 million a year range, unless he continues to play as he did at the end of the year, which in that case you can justify paying him the max or close to it.

Yes true max contracts are a percentage of the salary cap or a 107.5 raise from the previous year, whichever is more.

I think we should wait it out and see farieds whole game this year against REAL competition. I don't think farieds a max player nor that we should pay him that amount.

Agents know what the possibility of money teams have available, they want to get as much of that as possible for their clients (which also increases their own commissions), that's their job. So as the cap goes up therefore increasing the available payouts, LeBron planned on it because he's a very smart business man, waiting to pay Faried and AA will only open the availability of funds to go after, from us and other teams too.

Yes, it is a bit of blind faith with Faried, but AA is pretty solid both on offense and defense, so not much risk in trying to get it done.

Ouch and ouch. I don't mean to be be disrespectful, but I don't believe either player is worth 11m.

NBA is a multi-BILLION dollar industry, and market value puts them in that range..... I'd love to pay both about $8-9M but at least I am realistic about this, at least that's my opinion...and when the cap goes up, $11M will be a steal.

Yeah agreed. That's kinda how I feel with AB & his Boston deal. Now I know Bradley < Afflalo, but at 22 years old, when the cap goes up to 80+mil, he's being paid 8, it'll be a steal for his production.

I'd def throw them 12m 5yr deals. Afflalo will be about right, but Faried will be a steal.

Lets wait to see how they pan out before we start throwing the books at them and constricting our budget for 2016's FA class.

Right now Faried and AA are at their highest. AA coming from a team where his stats were inflated and Faried dominating a bunch of teams who would struggle against D-leaguers.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm optimistic about this team and Faried/AA's development. Just not $12m optimistic.

agreed.

if AA can sustain his stats while on good team, and faried can pick up where he ended last year and keep improving....then they're both worth the money and we can simply match other offers.

not sure either's a given though. and there's as much to risk as there is to lose if we sign them based off farieds new hype and AAA's stats.
