Energy & Guile

Post#1 » by pickaxe » Mon Dec 29, 2014 8:11 am

Guile is still a key missing ingredient from the Nugget repertoire.

We know how much energy this team needs. The players even get it every now and then. High energy, don't back down, push the ball. No arguments. Has to be high energy.

But is it? All the time? Is it really? Not seeing the energy for all 48 minutes and part of that problem is the managing of minutes. No one payer can maintain court vision if playing high intensity for all 48 minutes. Maybe Michael Jordan on a good night.

So, this is where guile comes in. If our players bring a great game all the way to the final 7 minutes and every single person in the Nuggets organization is in space brain mode, the other team is just going slip a dagger in there and steal the game every time. Great 'D' for 23 seconds and then a Lowry three. That is what the Spurs have done so well for 15 years. We've had the Spurs beat as a team numerous times during their reign, however -they have always used guile to prevent and stave off losses.

Guile is that key play of the game where you can appreciate the mind of the player not just the athleticism. Energy can blow up at any time if not harnessed by cunning.

Anyone catch a look at Byron Scott on the sidelines mid 4th? He had a puzzled expression and his arms crossed almost if thinking he could manage our team better.
