I think Barton was a great find and comes at a great contract, but I think we should consider it.
We have a lottery draft pick coming in, potentially 2 mid range firsts, WC coming back and FA cap space to boot. While I like Barton, there's just too much doubt and uncertainty about him for me. He's quite an awful defender, and he has now been figured out by opposing defenses. Also, I question whether he can play in an offense where he's not the first option on the floor.

Depending on who they draft, yeah maybe. If I had any faith in Chandler's ability to stay healthy, I'd be more in favor but we're desperately going to need scoring from the wing when Gallo/Chandler inevitably get hurt. I'm not sure you want to put all that pressure on a rookie.

Him and our first and a second for lakers (#2 probably). I mean they definitely need him with an expiring Nick young, a retiring Kobe, and a need for an actual bench. Plus they could still get really good talent with the 8 or 9th pick. This allows us to draft Ingram or even Simmons which would then allow us to trade Gallo like other chats have been talking about. And actually with Gallo and a first we could easily get even another pick high enough to draft Hield and have possibly the best core in the entire league. But then again extremely unlikely and I don't even know if I like this idea because it constitutes being bad for probably a couple more years.

The Lakers aren't giving up the 2nd pick...

Lakers would probably at least want all our 1sts this year to move up to 2nd, which I would be in favor of. Not sure what Barton's value is, we'd be lucky to get a late first, maybe we could get a 2nd. I see Barton as a piece to a bigger trade this summer.

Re: Time to sell high on Barton?
I think the Lakes would give up the 2nd pick if we included 5 of our top 7 players plus our 3 first round picks this year and a couple future first round picks. LOL They WANT this pick. They've got a nice core and adding one top player this year will give them a good nucleus for years.
I'm not a big fan of trading Barton, but there's a lot of sense in this idea. I'd like to keep him but I think, with smart drafting, he might be the odd man out.

Let's remember what we got for mozgov and let's remember each team evaluates their needs differently. A second round pick for Barton would be a joke, he's a top 3 candidate for 6th man of the year. We could easily get great value for him. And yes I understand that pick might be slightly out of reach for that package but let's remember they would still be in the lottery and possibly top five depending on the Knicks during the rest of the season.

Re: Time to sell high on Barton?
Right now I am not for trading Barton. With the development we're seeing on our young guys, seems to me the more weapons we have the better, rather than take a gamble, I'll take what I know/see in Barton. He's young enough to be part of this core going forward
Also heard we have a seven game streak of 100+pt in a row, longest of any team in the NBA and he is a part of that. Injuries to Gallo and Chandler seem inevitable so Barton adds that versatility, scoring and depth we need when one or both go down
If we want/need to move up, I'd rather trade Chandler along with HOU/POR pick(s) in the off-season. But as it stands we only have 11 contracts on the roster ( less Sampson ) and I can see Arthur opting out to get more money so that may be 10 spots. Keeping 3 rookies would be easy but it might not be as plausible to get them some PT while continuing to develop our core youth. Malone has shown he can do it and building this core together was in the plans all along.

Re: Time to sell high on Barton?
The more I look at this team, the more willing I am to not make a trade for next year. We have 11 players plus Augustine, Sampson, Toupane. The last 3 can be dropped without penalty. Arthur could leave. So we'll have 10-14 players plus draft picks; 3 1st & 2 2nd. That'd be 19 max. OK, draft & stash, not renew a couple. It would work to keep everyone.
The team seems to have good chemistry overall and I agree that we need some veterans. It's a gamble because one more injury to Chandler or Gallinari and their trade value will pretty much vanish. One bad year and Barton's trade value will vanish. But it just might be worth the gamble with all these young players and more coming.
Then again, combining picks & players and trading might be OK - but only if they get approval from this board first. LOL

Re: Time to sell high on Barton?
I would trade Barton for the right deal, but than I am not really in love with his game. As a person and the rumors about how hard he works and his attitude I would not be upset with them keeping him, but I just do not see him as a long term fit with this team, he needs the ball in his hands and he likes to go more one on one, where as the team needs more of a guy comfortable playing off the ball who can also create for himself on occasion.

Re: Time to sell high on Barton?
gotta remember that this is his first year playing significant minutes - he might adjust - like I've said, I'm OK with trading him also but I think the team might be better off keeping him
