Coaching Changes

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Thu Jul 14, 2016 1:22 am

Fleming went to coach with a college teammate - makes sense
No Pinckney is no longer a coach and rumors say he didn't resign?
Dee Brown is no longer in charge of player development? He was the one that worked so much with Mudiay last year.

Is Mike Miller going to be a coach?
Is Billups going to agree to any position less than GM?

I know they've added one replacement already, but this is puzzling.

Definitely could see the possibility of adding Chauncey as executive in charge of player development/recruitment. Been working with Mudiay already, might as well get paid for it.

Pinckney from what I understand will be back after he turned down another offer. It'd be nice if Chauncey joined our staff, but no real significant losses.

Gillespie left today to coach a D-league team, so that's 4 assistant coaches gone in the last couple weeks. What's the deal? I can't imagine that looks good around the league.

Ultimately coaches are viewed based on W-L....Not a lot of W's to pad your resume in these parts lately. Kroneke's are also cheap, understandingly give the the roster right now.

Not necessarily, Dee Brown made a big difference working with Mudiay, proof of how he was before/after the AS break

...and then he just up and left. Appears a few assistant coaches didn't share the same enthusiasm with all the youth that this board does.

OR as you said earlier maybe it comes down to money or job title. The Nuggets had the most assistant coaches in the league last year if I remember correctly, I doubt they were paid very highly and maybe they want more responsibilities than they were offered here.

I've said before that there were signs Malone is a coach who likes his own counsel. When time out is called, some head coaches walk out onto the court to think for a moment before addressing the players. Malone seems to do that most of the time. Other head coaches have 2 or 3 assistant coaches walk onto the court with them for a brief chat before addressing the players. It's a little thing, but his language in interviews tends to focus around his views and that's not bad, but a little more praise for his assistant coaches would go a long way. On the other hand, it takes a big ego to manage the modern NBA teams/players. So all of that is understandable and the buck stops with him. It's a tricky game and we only see the tip of the iceberg. What goes on behind the scenes is far more important than what I've just pointed out.

Looks like the Nuggets are about to add a new coach in Chris Finch, looks like a good fit (or so says the article, I don't claim to know anything about him).

Another article on Finch - This one says he was the primary architect of the Rockets "Threes & Layups" offense. Makes me believe even more that he'll help us.

Good to hear about Finch finally signing, I feel he, along with Malone, will be able to take this team to the next defensive level. It may take a short while, but it's what can/will take us to the playoffs. Great time with such young players too.
