Zach Lowe 10 things I like has Nurkic #2

No doubt Nurkic has been beasting and everybody knows I love what he brings, but it is almost shocking to see any Nugget getting praise from the national media especially this early in the season.

Watched the whole game last night... The 3rd quarter is what really put the Nuggets over the top. Jurkic played fantastic in the third, and I think one of them should be in the game at all times for you guys.

But the thing that really caught my eye last night: Nurkic was getting HAMMERED. Wow the refs missed so many calls against him, he was literally getting poked, swatted at, scratched, everything you can think of in the paint, and he only managed a couple of calls.

One time in particular, Nurk went up for a dunk and I think Tyus Jones went up and clearly smacked his wrist from behind and it was a no call, even the Timberwolves announcers (who are very unbiased and solid) were laughing about it. Then it happened again in the 4th quarter twice.

Dude is beasting, but the referees need to call games equally. KAT was getting some ticky tack calls on the other end, and Nurk was getting hammered.

Gallinari has been very efficient this season, I've always liked him. As for Mudiay, I actually like him.... even with his struggles, I think it's good to throw a young PG out there into the fire and let him learn from his mistakes on the court. BUT, I will say that he's been out of control in the 4th quarter the last couple of games.

Last night he had an important And 1 towards the end, but some of his passes are like those NBA 2k ones across full court where you know it'll get intercepted, that happened a couple of times yesterday.

I'm really jealous of your guys team/talent... you basically have the flexibility to do anything you want. Forget about "young cornerstones," you guys have veterans with LEGIT trade value going forward, and if Connelly wants to pull the trigger on any moves, I bet you there won't be many more teams then Denver getting some very nice trade offers at the trade deadline in February. Chandler and Faried and maybe Darth could all land something decent (not that I think a trade needs to happen right now).

That leads me into what I'm really envious about your team: your core. Nurkic-Jokic-Barton-Gallinari-Mudiay-Murray-Harris..... all of those guys are young except Gallo and he's in his prime right now. It's really amazing how many good young players you guys have, and that's the key to your flexibility, you can go in so many directions going forward if you want to.

Nurkic-Jokic will be fine, I see people on other sites saying "trade one!," I'm 1000% certain NEITHER one of them will get traded anytime soon, certainly not this year or next year. NBA front office's aren't stupid, its their job to see everything we see and more. Your FO knows that GMs across the league and media members were hyping Jokic like crazy due to his advanced stats last year, and they also know that everybody sees that Nurkic has basically two-way dominating potential. They'll let it ride and I think as baffling as Malone's 4th quarters rotations have been so far (and lack of minutes for Jokic and Nurkic at times), I think the best players will force their way onto the court eventually for the duration of the remaining games and i have no doubts that it'll end up being Jokic+Nurkic playing 30 mins each individually, however it has to happen.

Lowe seems to a have a soft spot for the Nuggets. He often gives the Nuggets a lil love, like he did in this piece. I'm weary of Nurk playing more than 30 min, don't want him to wear down early, at the same time the team should have fed him the ball in the 4th last night.
