Nuggets Play Soft?

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Wed Mar 22, 2017 1:14 am

Media, including the Nuggets' own broadcasters often say something like; other teams like to play physical against the Nuggets because they don't deal well with it.

Do you agree? I think I do.
I think of the Warriors and they have a lot of "lighter weight" players, but they don't seem to shy away from physical play.

Which Nuggets are particularly vulnerable?
Is just that our team is loaded with "nice guys"?

Which Nuggets are not afraid of the physical?

Well, do any Nuggets play physical ??? Faried and Arthur are probably the most physical otherwise were a finesse team.

I don't think Nuggets are soft team, they are just bad defensive team they are easy to penetrate also players have a zero protection from the refs , its hard to play tough and physical brand of basketball when you are not respected by officiating crew night after night those last two games against Houston are proof of my claim , I wish Nuggets tried to acquire Butler in February , they need one true star to help young guns, to give this team some credibility.

It's especially when the Nuggets are on offense where other teams get physical. As for the physical play on defense, you are right. It's hard to play physical when the refs don't respect your defense. But it's kind of like a young person looking for a job and no one will hire them because they don't have experience but they can't get experience because they can't get hired because they don't have experience because ...

Signing Butler would have brought instant respect. The only other way to get respect is to play physical anyway. We have depth, use it! Let guys play in foul trouble as long as they play hard. The refs will learn and so will everyone else. Malone needs to stop pulling his young players because of fouls. I'm not saying he's wrong to do the traditional 2 fouls in the first, 3 in the second. However, Jokic especially only averages 3 fouls a game because he gets early fouls and Malone doesn't play him enough in the second half. It's not a crime for a big man to get 4-5 fouls in a game and occasionally foul out.

I missed the 2nd Rocket game, but in the first one the Nuggets were thrown off quite a bit when Houston got physical. I definitely think we could stand to be a more physical team and commit hard (but clean) fouls.

We don't have an enforcer type, need the big rim-protecting stud that can bull his way to the rim.

Plumlee isn't exactly an enforcer, but he sets hard screens and can have an edge to his game. I'd like to see that encouraged so he can provide a tough and physical presence next to Jokic.

Like, say, Nurkic? Or Mozgov?

I think Plumlee is strong enough to play physically. However, many sources said he plays TOO nice XD

That was the reason I loved Nurkic with this team, we have been missing that nasty attitude type since KMart left, and he had plenty of it. This team is missing that guy right now, the guy who at least appears to have no problem fighting other players, that will knock someone to the ground because the want to play rough with our players. Until we get that again we are going to have the rep of a soft team, even with so many guys who do not seem to mind rough play including Jokic and Gallo, this team will have that rep.

I used to think Faried would grow into that type of guy, but he never seems to get rough on behalf his teammates, just himself. Nurkic was exactly that type, and I am sure less of a pain in the ass as Green is for the Warriors. Matt Barnes has managed to stay employed in the NBA specifically because he is that guy but changes teams constantly because he wears out his welcome everywhere. So is it that Malone cannot handle and does not know how to use that tough guy type or was it something else between Malone and Nurkic? IF it is the 1st than you will have to lose Malone before you can get this team to contender status if it is the later than you have to go find that guy this offseason.

Imagine if Nuggets played any harder tonight , there would have been ejections all over the court  Nuggets players are not allowed to even look in the direction of the opposing players , especially major stars , its ridiculous. Portland have much better treatment by refs, thanks to "all star" backcourt duo .

Funny thing about it is once you get known as a physical team or physical player even than the refs call less crap. That is one of the way these young teams take steps. It is the way the Warriors took the next step when they got Bogut, The Thunder got crazy Perkins and that team literally changed overnight. A few years ago the Heat only won a championship after they got Andersen, that Pistons team finally took the next step after they got Rasheed and he got the rest of the team to get much tougher than they had been. The Raptors had that last year with Biyombo (sp) and now they don't have it and are trying to get it back this year with Ibaka but Ibaka already seems to be slowing down and was never that nasty of a player. That is part of what you need to get the refs to back off the crazy superstar calls, and that is what every great team has need of one.
