Well, that last few years have convinced me our ownership cares only about seats in the seats. With Jokic, Harris, and Murray (hopefully Lyles, Hernangomez, and Beasley) all being rather dynamic and with Millsap providing stability, it seems likely they'll sell enough tickets that he gets a new contract. If they also make the playoffs, no doubt our ownership will sign him to a new contract (at a nice low price).

The more I watch these playoffs, the more concern I have with Malone. A nuggets playoff series against a good team is gonna be ugly. Teams are gonna exploit Jokic in the PnR and iso him on switches, and I don’t have faith that Malone is gonna be able to do anything about it.

I think best case scenario for next year, nuggets make playoffs and get crushed in the first round against HOU or GS. Malone gets fired. Nuggets use that cap space to sign some of those long, rangy forwards. Nuggets bring in a coach that’ll be creative enough to scheme for different opponents and hide Jokic, and just lets the offense go thru jokic.

What would you guys think of Jay Wright as a Malone successor ?

I only casually follow NCAA bball but he seems to have done well. He might make a decent choice but I don't see our ownership as willing to try a college coach. They tried a former player and bombed. They've now tried a guy who had little head coaching experience and most of us aren't impressed. It seems likely that if the Nuggets decide on a new head coach next year, it'll be some one that is "proven".

Wright has one thing on most other "proven" coaches, he's a winner !!. What other "proven" coaches are out there...SVG ?? Monty Williams ?, heck even Messina hasn't lead an NBA team. I think bringing in a guy who knows how to win at a high level is what this team needs. I like Messina too, at least he's won in Europe but "proven" doesn't mean a lot unless you want to bring some names and what they've proven

Could you imagine if Malone were using burner accounts on twitter defending his coaching decisions.

The most important thing to me is that he can design a system to fit the talent we have. Without being able to talk to them, it makes it hard, but that is why I like Messina as he has been an assistant with Pop who has a history of changing his system when needed.

I'm resigned to living through another nightmare year of Malone. I'll worry about our next coach later (unless they extend re-sign him quickly).
