The way I see it Barton's role will be to start at SF while Porter recuperates. Once Porter gets back to 100%, Barton moves back to the 6th man, strengthening our bench to become another one of the best in the NBA (Barton, Lyles, Plumlee, Juancho, Beasley, Morris, Craig, Vanderbilt and Lydon ). That bench can go offensive or defensive depending on the need.

You forgot about fact that Millsap will not be in Denver, so Lyles will be probably the new PF starter since 2019-20.
Talking about Barton backup roles, I really hope that Beasley (or Morris) will improve into decent PG, because Barton is much better when playing SF and SG, than PG.

As I recall, we have Millsap here this year as well as an option on him for next year. Even then, I feel confident in saying we may have the opportunity to renegotiate with Millsap at the end of this year if we so desire. And in the end Millsap wasn't expected to be here forever so Lyles or Juancho seemed logical to take his place eventually.

I agree with about Morris, I HATE having Barton running our offense, he may be a playmaker but he's far from an offensive PG/director of our 2nd unit. He's a scorer/playmaker/6thMOTY candidate, that's what his role should be.

1. Millsap could be extended next year, if the Nuggets so choose. Which they could do if they aren't ready to sign a big FA.

2. Millsap could have his option turned down and re-sign with Denver for much less, as Sky suggested. I certainly hope they don't do this because we have enough young forwards that we need to find out if any of them are decent.

3. Millsap could be traded during the season to a contender that needs a PF but wants an expiring.

*** I truly believe Beasley has what it takes to play either guard slot on a Jokic-centric team. Plus I am cautiously optimistic that Morris can also become a combo-guard, which is what he played last year in the G-League. (((We only need one of them to work out and I'll be happy.

The timing of the Barton signing is interesting in that Chandler was traded shortly thereafter. Almost seems like they were holding off on that trade until they were sure Barton was under contract.

This begs the question of whether there are any additional moves left to make.
Canned in Denver.
