Areas of Concern

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Wed Sep 12, 2018 12:54 pm

These are areas that seem to need the most improvement IMO. While I strongly object to Malone calling plays while Jokic is on the floor, that doesn't make my top-2 because the Nuggets can score no matter what. Similarly, it does not seem as though the Nuggets have done well early in games and that seems like game preparation but the Nuggets can still overcome. The same with in-game adjustments.

I'm going with late-game-leads and out-of-bounds-plays. The first is a matter of game management by Malone along with mental toughness by the players. The out-of-bounds-plays seem to have been either not called or not effective in the past. What percentage of these plays result in scores? I do not know but it would be nice to see a higher percentage. When we can get set and run our play; we should be able to score. This would be related to usage of picks, but I limited it to two, so I'm out of options.

Oops, I didn't vote for defense. Yes! I am a huge believer in the need of better defense, but I've sort of given up on that. The Nuggets mantra needs to go back to the Moe/Westhead days - score, score, score.

Went with 2nd half prep and defense, feel like Malone never made any adjustments in the 2nd half which led to dropping leads (or not catching up) and defense.

Coaching is my biggest concern. Malone is holding this team back on both ends of the floor.

Injury is my no. 1. And 2nd and 3rd.

We can not afford any missed time by Jokic.
Canned in Denver.

Some unexpected Malone experiment is my biggest fear, so I really like what I heard from him in this interview.

In short, "same offense, with improved defense", and to start this season from where we finish last season, is exactly what I want to hear. And I like to see Malone this relaxed, which, I guess, means there no unknown territory for him at the start of this season. And if the team really doing what they do in the last part of last season, that is perfect for me.

Malone does great sound bites. On media he talked about how Morris could make a good backup PG and then in just a few moments he talked about how Barton would probably be used at PG some. No doubt when Thomas is back, Barton won't be playing PG, so he must have been talking about early, meaning no Morris at PG. He has also talked about Jokic running the offense. So who is point? According to Malone: Murray & Barton & Jokic & Morris & Thomas - was there a rule change allowing five basketballs at the same time?

While you probably won't get much opposition, hard to hate on a guy who resurrected us from Brian Shaw days increasing our win total from 33 up to 46 in two years. No playoffs isn't thrilling but we do have some talent to make a big jump (or two) over the next 2 years.

Centers
Jokic - perfect (well ...)
Plumlee - best backup for Nuggets IMO

Power Forwards
Millsap - gotta love him
Lyles - love him as a backup - potential 5th starter

Small Forwards
Barton - nice start
Craig - as expected and enjoying that
Hernangomez - as expected and enjoying that

Shooting Guards
Harris - perfect (or very close, just wish him to be more aggressive)
Beasley - starting to live up to his potential
{{Don't forget Barton, Craig, Murray, Morris can play here too - we've got it covered}}

Point Guards
Murray - too streaky but love him
Morris - WOW!
Thomas - still waiting
