Isaiah Thomas, what's up with him?

Post#1 » by The Rebel » Fri Nov 30, 2018 2:13 am

With this signing of Goodwin I am guessing we are either about to see a trade or Thomas is not coming back anytime soon. No other explanation for signing a PG when we are only a couple of weeks from when Thomas was rumored to be coming back.

We could just be getting a closer look at Goodwin, utilizing an NBA loophole to add another player w/o having to waive a current player. Also we can option Akoon-Purcell down to the G-league to get more PT while keeping as full of a roster as possible. We only get so much time with our 2-ways up in the big league, may as well take advantage while you can.

This is still the Kroenke owned Nuggets we are talking about right? They do not just hand out contracts for end of the bench guys, considering how many years we carrier 13 and 14 guys on the roster when the allotment allowed 15 I don't see any basis for saying they just wanted another player.

Akoon-Purcell is not a PG, if you watch garbage time the last couple of times they have Craig running point, and Goodwin looks like he is a very good D league PG. They are not spending money on a 4th string PG just to take advantage of a loophole, they have no history of doing that when we are so close to the luxury tax.

There is a reason they are doing it and the only reasonable explanations are they are making a trade or Thomas is not coming back very soon. IN the article itself it mentions that all 4 of our guys are out at least 2 more weeks, but nothing more, so I guess we will wait and see what happens.

Point #1 - Jokic
Point #2 - Murray
Point #3 - Morris
Point #4 - Thomas
Point #5 - Goodwin - except then we've forgotten about Barton who has played a lot of point for us plus Beasley & Harris sometimes bring the ball up court and Millsap & Plumlee will also bring the ball up court and start the offense

Yeah, this signing makes no sense - not when we only have two legitimate centers. We are gambling on their health. Guard is our most solid & set area and we have enough forwards even if we aren't sure of who will fit where and how. I'd say this was a move to show they could make a move - let's hope I'm wrong and maybe this is preparatory to another trade. If so, Goodwin seems most likely to take Morris' slot if he is traded. Thomas is supposed to fill a different role than Morris or Goodwin, or so it seems.

I don't buy this. I can think of plenty of more plausible explanations. Like Sky said, maybe Goodwin is a guy they liked and wanted to get a closer look at. Maybe a scout or someone in the FO has some kind of connection to him. Maybe they're doing his agent a favor. Maybe they just wanted someone who can handle the ball in garbage time, because like you said, we don't really have anyone else capable of doing that at the moment.

They were basically given the opportunity to take a free flyer on a no-name, and they took it. You could end up being right, but we always seem to try to connect bread crumbs like this and it almost never actually comes to fruition.
