2019 Offense feels stagnant???

Post#1 » by Wigginstime » Mon Nov 4, 2019 8:10 pm

Anyone else feel like the nuggets offense just seems to lack rhythm. They seem to be forcing more and getting less "easy" buckets than last year.

Trying to quantity this, I stumbled upon the following statistic:

2019 Nuggets Assists/100 possessions = 28 (2nd in the league)
2020 Nuggets Assists/100 possessions = 21 (23 in the league)

Do you feel like to lack of passing and forced offense is just a result of the team team trying to find their rhythm at the start of the season or an indication of a larger problem?

You won't get many assists if you don't hit your shots. I see what you are saying and it is hard to understand.

I have always thought that nearly all professional athletes go through off periods, its human nature. To do it collectively requires a real lack of motivation. I am afraid the Nuggets may be feeling a little bit entitled to begin the season because of how well they played last season. i expect them to snap out of it.

Additionally, Millsap may be a factor as it is likely father time is having an effect.

We've been saying this since the 1st game of the season, just feels like the starting unit is out of sync

Need some better athletes to get out in front of Jokic/Murray. With current roster you put grant and Beasley into the SL

Since Malone has never worried about balancing the bench (and I'm actually somewhat okay with that); I think he needs to juggle the starting lineup.

Jokic - Grant - Porter - Harris - Murray

Leaves a bench of Plumlee - Millsap - ???? - Beasley - Morris. I think Barton might work at SF but I favor Hernangomez and/or Vanderbilt with Craig brought in as a defensive stopper when needed on the wing.

We have the depth - use it!!!

Beasley can't hit a shot either (last game he was 1 for 8). Grant's 3 is not falling in the last few games and he was 1 for 4 against Orlando. Its a team affliction.

Jokic really has a slow start and Millsap is aging, but we actually should blame a shocking drop in the efficiency of our bench for this downfall.

Denver Nuggets bench players TS% (true shooting percentages):

THIS SEASON SO FAR
0.488 Malik Beasley
0.324 Torrey Craig
0.410 Monte Morris
0.375 Juan Hernangómez
0.493 Jerami Grant
0.666 Michael Porter

LAST SEASON
0.577 Monte Morris
0.599 Malik Beasley
0.547 Torrey Craig
0.580 Juan Hernangómez

I'm going to say that our starters look lethargic and our bench looks anemic.

A lot of it has become iso play, I doubt Malone is telling them to do it, but this year it seems like everybody is standing around and then trying to do something with the ball once they get it. It could be that Malone was switching to a more like a drive and kick type system but he cannot be that stupid after the last years doing this crap before he just went with the Jokic offense last year. Oddly that also was our best start and season since Karl left, so I doubt he would revert.

Well, I can't go to the games, so is Malone calling a lot of plays? Our best offense doesn't involve calling plays - it's giving Jokic the ball and then moving. So either Malone's changed the offense or the players have.

It’s a team with 11 guys who “should be starting”. And even they know it. 1 ball and all this talent of course nothing’s really clicking. Nugs will still overwhelm teams with platoons and something will settle out positive later into the season.

This is a predictable thing to run into w this roster. Everyone’s value has gone down. And still what 5-2 or 6-2? Things are fine and will round into a top 1-3 finish in regular season. But is that enough?

I’d still prefer trying to build a team to win in the playoffs even more than Regular season. I think it’s super athleticism into those spots.

Take millsap out. Which kinds of players slotted in really make the team way better? Is it Gallinari?
