A good bet wouldn't be waved then signed for a vet minimum. I mean, if that was the Nugget's goal, then what was the point of letting Craig go? He was also defensive-minded, cheap and if anything better fitting and not an injury concern.
Batum was waived from last year of his monster Albatros contract, which was overpaid even when he is on his peak, but that is another story.
Even if we count Batum and Craig as equally good defenders, which I don't agree with because Batum is taller two inches with the same mobility, don't forget that Batum career 3p% is 36% (Craig 32%), FT% is 84% (Craig 66%), and Batum averaged 4 assists per game (Craig 1), so I have reasons to believe that Batum will be more useful for Clippers in 2021 than Craig to Bucks.
But OK, let's forget about Batum, which I've mentioned first here right after first rumors about Hornets' upcoming plans with his contract. He is not available anymore (unfortunately, if you ask me), and which is the worse, the current list of Free Agents still available on the market is far from impressive. Here is a short list of still available free agents that hypothetically can be interesting for the Nuggets to play for the veteran's minimum. There is actually over 30 FA left, but most of them have no business to play in Denver in 2021 by any mean.
FC Anthony Davis (27)GF Kyle Korver (39)
PF Taj Gibson (35)
PG Reggie Jackson (30)
PG Jeff Teague (32)
GF Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (25)
PF Marvin Williams (34)
BTW, the reason why I started the Batum discussion a few days ago is that from my point of view he was potentially the best player left on the FA market (at least for what Nuggets need). The better source for eventual roster improvement is obviously the eventual (Barton) trade, but right now is not clear who is availible.
