Re: Training camp/Pre-season
Reading a lot of the articles coming out and the tweets of course, it sounds like the coaching staff is really impressed on Bol, Dozier, and Hampton. Hartenstein seems to be involved in a lot of the highlight plays, either passing or setting a pick. Green is being pushed today, discussing the attitude he has always played with and that we so desperately needed. Sounds like we are going to have a good bench but it also leaves you questioning how are they going to play everybody?

COVID will surely help utilize our depth this year and it will not surprise me to see a deadline trade, things will definitely work out IMO.
There's also the perspective that articles and tweets are a major a team PR cannon, how much is true, how much is rhetoric. I'd bet the same tweeters are saying DET is a playoff contender.

I can see covid causing somewhat of a mess, and I agree we are likely going to have to make a trade at some point, if the young guys are doing as well as they say than we are going to have to move some guys.
Of course you have to know that some of it is hype. I don't know if you noticed it, but with Morris and Hartenstein basically penciled in at backup PG and C, those 3 young guys are the ones competing for minutes at SG, SF, and PF.
I think most of us went into preseason figuring that the rotation would be
Murray/ Morris
Harris/ Barton / Facu
MPJ/ Barton
Millsap/ Green
Jokic/ Hartenstein
With Bol getting spot minutes.
Maybe it is a message to the veterans or maybe they are doing that well there is no way to tell if you are not there. Honestly if those 3 are getting the minutes at those backup positions than we will have one hell of a bench. That will mean they beat out one of Harris, Facu, and Barton or one of Green, Millsap and Hartenstein.

From just looking at the videos so far, it seems certain that the Nuggets are taking an early look at Hampton. He looks like he is not that raw. Not sure who he can beat out but he has an intensity in his game. Hartenstein looks like a veteran.
Bol is being looked at and the test will come down to whether he can guard anyone in the preseason.
When I think back, Malone has been largely accurate in his descriptions of his players in past training camps. His raving about Jokic and Murray certainly came true. His current raving about MPJ looks real and I think is possible. Dozier is the surprise. We will see soon enough.
There seems to be plenty of talent her for Malone to work with if he can keep the players tight on their covid restrictions.
Canned in Denver.

Watching video highlights is never a true representation of a player, it's all the hype-train. They never show you the mistakes that are made, the erratic passes, the dribble off the foot, etc so don't take a lot of stock into what's ONLY being released.
As for Hampton, don't forget he was practicing/playing against grown men in the NBL so he has a taste of the competition he's facing here in the NBA, only stronger and faster grown men. I have liked what I've seen in the Bol video's I've posted (oh, my own irony comes to kick me in the teeth), but seeing him in bubble games did give us all a taste, I wonder if he can take the pounding on his body. That said, his Dad sure handled it well, so there's some history to back him up.
I do think some young buck is gonna step up to make a trade very viable for this Nuggets team, whether Barton, Harris or even Millsap. I'll miss Grant but there is a lot of hope for this team IMO.

Re: Training camp/Pre-season
I'm never impressed by Summer League or Training Camp hype coming from any team. They are going to say, "He's looking great" because they want to encourage the player and they want everyone to think their front office makes perfect decisions. So I'll wait to see what happens on the court.
On the other hand, I am truly impressed with the roster as it sits. We still have most of our core and are counting on Porter to join that group and make a difference. Our depth is mostly younger players, so we are depending on potential. If two or three live up to their potential, we're big-time winners. Depth that we can depend on is going to be limited to Millsap or Green plus Barton or Harris - depending on who starts. Plus Morris, he's a solid backup at either guard slot and could probably start on several teams in the league.

No doubt about being too optimistic about the hype-train. I am looking at player rotations without drawing too many conclusions about individual skill sets but I am certainly reading the tea leaves here. For example virtually every view of Millsap has Green guarding him. With Jokic it is Hartenstein guarding him. That tells me they may be pairing them for possible rotations. The guards are more of a mixed bag but when I see Hampton, I see him playing against mostly starters and spending a lot of time with players I would associate with the bench unit. That puts him in the rotation, possibly. I realize that they move players back and forth between groups and nothing is set in stone.
However, we are in a shortened training camp and Hampton may see some extended minutes in preseason. What I haven't seen is much of Nanji. Preseason tomorrow should give us some more insight.
Canned in Denver.

Btw, with all the talk about the rookies and newcomers, can I add that Jokic looked stupidly good? Didn't know what to expect considering the short off season, his trip to Serbia and all that, but he seemed like he could run circles around anyone on the court, probably could've recorded a triple double before halftime or so if he wanted.

If nothing else Facu is going to make guys tighten up their handles and not be so careless with the ball just from practicing with the guy.
I also like that Murray gave him 5 after Facu got that deflection, shows that Murray is still encouraging guys and knows that they will both get better practicing against each other.
