I see no need for Grant at this point, he is an undersized PF that thinks he is an iso player when he really is not.

- I have a very high opinion about Beasley, but the fact is he will leave Denver this Summer anyway. There are several teams around the league ready to play him 25+ minutes, even to give him a starter's role already next season, and ready to pay him more than Denver where his playing time dropped to 15mpg and he even missed already over 5 games by coach decision.
- The similar case we have with Juancho, which also expiring this season, already missed over 5 games by Malone decision, and his playing time is under 15mpg so far.
- Barton playing over all (my) expectations so far this season, but he is still not a good fit for Jokic game IMO, and his current shape makes him look like a good asset in the eventual deal.

Knowing all that our FO should offer some big package that involving all these three players which will be much more useful to new team than in Denver right now, and gets one (semi)star player, and very respectable offensive 3rd option to be added to Jokic and Murray. If we can get two semi-star players, like LaVine and Otto Porter, of course, that Harris should be added to our offer because we can't pay (in that case) backup guard 20M once we get a better SG, even if Harris is 20M worthy thanks to his defensive skills. As you know I never complained about Plumlee qualities as a basketball player, but he playing in Denver 16mpg, so he is not worthy 14M IN DENVER.

Denver has too many very good and/or very talented players on the bench, and Denver needs for his better playoff chances to add Jokic and Murray third notable offensive option. That would be solved with one big offer (several assets despite we don't have picks to offer anymore) for one great new starter, or even bigger package which includes Harris, if we get two new starters (including guard ones). That is logic which I follow in these my trade speculations.

Yes Beasley has missed games due to coaches decision, but that does not change the fact that he is a restricted free agent next summer. We do not lose him for nothing, at a minimum we can get a pick and maybe even a decent 1st round pick for him.

Juancho we will likely only get a 2nd or TPE for him as a restricted free agent but that does not mean we should just give him away either.

I do agree that Barton has been playing well but is still not a fit for the Nuggets.

I will also agree with you that those 3 being combined for an upgrade at SF would be a good thing for the team and another team can make better use of them.

What I do not understand is this idea that we need a ball dominate pseudo star. You don’t like the fit with Barton and Jokic, but you want to bring in an even more ball dominate guard which leaves Harris on the bench which hurts our defense tremendously and take the ball out of Jokic and Murray’s hands? I am not sure if you were following the NBA when we traded for Allen Iverson, I was constantly attacked when I came out against the trade before the rumors really got going yet I was proven right. Iverson and Melo were both too selfish to be 2nd options, so we had 2 1st options constantly fighting for the ball and really the team was worse off after the trade than before despite the fact that we gave up less talent than we gave. Lavine is a selfish scorer that considers himself the 1st option, and it is currently hurting his team now. The bigger issue is that we have Murray and Jokic who are both as good if not better at scoring than Lavine, but neither is selfish enough to keep Lavine in line.

I know that fans as a whole underrate defense, but for this year and last Gary Harris has been a top 5 defender for shooting percentage allowed. Considering he is the guy that guards all the opposing star perimeter players he should be in the conversation for DPOY. He is that good on defense, to put it in perspective he is giving up 35.7% shooting which puts him as the 2nd best defender starting in the league and almost a full percentage point better than Kawhi Leonard. 10 PPG with 35.3% from 3 with DPOY defense is not something that you easily bench for a guy who is bad on defense and kills the entire offensive system. When I said I would not trade Harris straight up for Lavine, I am not joking and it is not hyperbole, If we are trading Harris than it better be for the perfect fit that makes us better on offense enough to justify the downgrade on defense.

Sorry but Otto Porter JR is not in the same defensive tier as Harris, he is a good defender while Harris is a great defender and arguably the best perimeter defender in the league. Going from Harris/Barton to Lavine/ OPJ is a downgrade on both ends, yet you have us giving up the prospects. Oh and the money, the money makes it even worse considering both Lavine and Otto Porter are significantly overpaid.

If we are giving up high quality guys than I expect to get some high quality return. Whether it is picks or the perfect fit at SF or a superstar we need something of real value if we are giving up guys like Beasley, Harris, Juancho, Barton, and all the other guys you and others want to give away. We should not give away guys to get guys who are not worth their contracts and do not fit with what we need.

Otto Porter JR is arguably a perfect fit at SF for us, but that does not change the fact that he is struggling with injuries right now nor that he is on a max deal despite not being worth a max contract. I am not giving up a bunch of assets to get Porter JR especially if Lavine is part of the deal. Honestly I would have no interest in bringing in Lavine unless it was to be a 6th man and then it would not happen because he is too overpaid.

Millsap, Plumlee, Craig, Beasley, Hernangomez and probably Grant --- which will we lose next summer? Which will we keep?

Our remaining roster:
Jokic [Bol]
Vanderbilt Cancar
Barton Porter
Harris [Dozier]
Murray Morris

Who do we target to keep?
What position/type of player do we target to acquire/sign?

I'd love to keep Grant. If the Nuggets were running a motion offense, I think he'd fit nicely. They aren't, so he doesn't. :sigh:

I'd like to keep Plumlee, but at a reduced salary. I don't mind keeping our other free agents at roughly their current salary (Millsap at a reduced salary).

A solid two-SG would be nice, but they'd have to be better than Harris, so probably not happening.

was curious to hear feedback. I know the Nuggets public-ally said porter Jr is not on the block. But is a trade of
NY Knicks
Randle and Morris

for
Milsap, MPJ and Bol Bol

work for everyone.

I think Randle and Morris both on amazing contracts give you depth and toughness to take the team very far.

 Not going to happen. If the Knicks wanted Porter or Bol, they could have gambled on them. Denver "wasted" their picks on these guys and they are going to stick to them. What they would bring back isn't worth their potential. Porter's worth is going up every month - based on what we are seeing people offering.

Interesting side thought: Millsap for Randle & Morris is a trade that works according to cap-rules. I'd be willing to take that one since everyone has short-term contracts.

I'd love Morris on the Nuggets but am not so sure about Randle. It's a matter of fit. I've taken a serious look at the Knicks roster and the only players that Denver's probably interested in are the same players New York wants to keep and even those don't really fit in Denver too well.

Maybe you don't realize it but both sides have to agree to a trade, and this deal is not even close to convincing Denver that they should put MPJ on the block.

Zach Lowe commented last weekend that there had beens serious talks with the Pelicans to discuss a trade involving Jrue Holiday x GHarris + Beasley + Juancho

I am not really sure about this one. I love Holiday but he is already 29, and I would hate sending Harris away. I also think his trade value is at his lowest right now.

I would pull the trigger adding Barton instead of Harris but salaries don´t match

New Orleans would do this trade in a heartbeat. Denver will probably have to trade Beasley and/or Hernangomez but Harris is just as important to Denver as Holiday is to N.O.
Canned in Denver.

I asked for a TOP40-TOP50 level player to create Denver BIG-3 with Jokic and Murray as our 3rd option in the offense, but Holiday is actually TOP30 player (or very close) which is two-way player able to improve our offense and hold Harris level of defense (whatever some stats say, Gary is, in reality, our best player in defense this season).

In terms of roster improvement, it would be a really great deal for Denver, which would promote Denver as true TOP5 title contender already this season, and even better chances next two seasons with Murray and MPJ continued improvement.

But there are also two red flags about Jrue Holiday:
- his injury history (only once in past 6 seasons he played over 67 games)
- Jokic+Murray+Holiday paycheck next season will be $85M, so in a Barton/Grant/Millsap triangle Nuggets will be able to pay only one of them $13-15M.

Risks are not small, but I'm for this deal. Pelicans have so many assets after AD trade, including 2020 two 1st picks and three 2nd picks, so I would add Barton into that deal and take from Pelicans 2020 WAS and NOP 2nd round picks (probably both TOP40 picks).

What about Millsap + Barton + Beasley + Juancho x Holiday + Favors?

2020/2021 roster:
Murray Morris
Holiday Harris
MPJ Craig
Grant Vanderbilt Cancar
Jokic Bol?

That roster costs 129M$ + Craig new deal. Full MLE is still available to land 1/2 frontcourt valuable pieces, rest should be minimum fillers

It is good for Denver, but I can't see why would Pelicans do that?

BTW, Marc Stain is a serious NBA source, so it seems we are really in a race for Jrue! The only thing I worry about is Jrue future health issues and if NOP insists on MPJ instead of Harris.
Marc Stain quote from NY Times wrote:Given a variety of hypothetical deals to consider, Holiday to the Nuggets would do more for Denver than, say, Boston overcoming the considerable salary-cap challenges it would face in trying to acquire Kevin Love from Cleveland or Miami importing Kyle Lowry from Toronto. Perhaps the Heat could also make a run at Holiday, but I rate Denver, which has been very methodical in its teambuilding, as the most intriguing hope for a landscape-changing trade during the season.

Jrue holiday is one of my favorite players in the league. He def wasn’t the first guy to think or for a 3rd guy. And NO def didn’t want to trade him. And he’s just not quite as good a fit with what they’re doing? Nugs should jump at him if he’s really available in trade.

I don’t like favors much and really don’t want to swap he and plumlee as part of it. I want Barton and Beasley going.

Heris should be traded, Mareja and Jokic often shut down and at that time Milsap and Plamli seemed more prominent, duels and play close their hair. His problem is as big as Kobi's invisibility(due to its impassiveness and breaking for the Syrian masses), its effect is small smaller for Oubre's good star arrests' bigger than his team ..

As Atlanta is looking for a C....would you trade Mason Plumlee x Alex Len to obtain some cap flexibility?

What Atlanta trying to get is not just a center but star-center (Drummond for example). It is not clear are they want to establish talented Collins as PF or want to trade him for someone who more suits Trae Young. If John Collins is on the table we can offer Atlanta their former legend Millsap, Barton, Bol Bol, Juancho, Beasley, and unprotected 2022. Collins will cost us about 100/4 but Murray-Harris-Porter-Collins-Jokic (6th man Grant) lineup will terrorize the rest of the league at least the next 5 years.

I wouldn't object to that trade but I think we're better off with Plumlee. The real problem with that trade would be that Atlanta would have to send at least one more player back. What we need is to sent two-for-one and not one-for-two.

Barton has been playing really well. But to be honest, I'd still prefer trading him and keeping Beasley instead. And with the emergence of MPJ, I hope he'd eventually take over at that SF spot and Beasley becomes our "super sub" off the bench.

Plumlee is expiring so the only benefit this year would be if a deal was available that upgraded the team and brought back more salary. In that case it depends on the other deal but as a stand alone deal I am not interested.

Return to Denver Nuggets
