I think this is a very valid point you make. The FO sees what GK is doing
and they know its really not that harmful to the team, while at the same
time it drives down the kid's value by the time he hits the free agent market.

They know the kid likes his current teammates and would want to re-sign there and continue playing with his buddy Melo. So the team will either low ball him or just match a low offer made by another team.

With this kid's short but bad history in the league, no team is going to offer
any contract large enough to be considered prohibitive for Denver to match.

I believe they know what the kid is capable of, and they are aware that he
will be worth it to sign him to a bargain priced contract. In the meantime
they will put him through this while his maturity catches up some.

What you should do is start 10 games with JR at the shooting guard spot, give him 35 minutes a game. He'll average maybe 20/5/5, then trade him for a point guard. :D
