I'm a Utah Jazz fan considering purchasing tickets to Games 1 and 2. How friendly is the arena to visiting fans?

I'm not talking about being obnoxious, just about being there. I don't mind some friendly jeering and whatnot but it's not worth it if there's a risk of real violence (I live in Oakland, so I've seen this happen at Raiders games).

I'd be sitting in the lower bowl if that matters at all in terms of atmosphere.

Considering his location is listed as Arizona, this was pretty (Please Use More Appropriate Word) to say. The guy is asking a serious question too, no need to try and be a jerk.

To the OP, I don't live in Denver so don't know, but I haven't heard anything that would mean you wouldn't be safe. I wouldn't take the above post to mean anything, every fan base has those e-tough guys.

I've seen stuff get marginally bad at the games against the Lakers. But I doubt there will be too many Jazz fans at the game, so it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad.

And as long as you're not a douche that's screaming stuff all game, I doubt anyone will really go out of their way to give you ****. Definitely not violently at least.

We're rude, obnoxious, and won't give you room to breathe.

I don't think violence will be a problem. That said, this is the NBA Playoffs. If you wish to avoid unfriendly altercations, I'd recommend not wearing Jazz colors and keeping the cheering to a minimum. There was one guy who was cheering very hard for the Spurs, and he ended up getting into a fight after the game. Not the funnest time you'll ever have, but certainly the safest rout. Team pride and alcohol are a bad combo.

If you're like me, you'll do the opposite of what I just said, and welcome the unfriendly jeers. I do it all the time. The hardest part will be leaving the arena if the Nuggets lose.

It's not an east coast arena but it probably depends as much on the circumstances (including your behavior, as others have noted) as anything. So, for example, in the unlikely event that the Jazz are blowing the Nuggets out, and you're standing up and clapping when they draw offensive fouls and whatnot, and you're sitting in the vicinity of emotional fans (such as myself), you might get a beer tossed on you. But in numerous Nuggets games over the years, I haven't seen much violence. More likely, if the Nuggets are winning and you don't make a scene, you're going to be fine.

Just be careful if Rocky is in your section with a birthday cake!

Well I'm coming for games 1 and 2. Hopefully it isn't a problem. Although I will wear a Jazz jersey, I don't mind comments as long as they are good-natured and fun rather than threatening or mean-spirited.

I think you will be pretty safe. I don't picture any Nuggets fans going Larry H. Miller on you.

The only problems i have seen have been at Laker games. Pretty much were ever they play fans come out the woodworks and it seems more like a home game for LA. On top of that they start getting belligerent and the comedy ensues.

If you mind to yourself and just enjoy the atmosphere you should be fine. I have tickets to the game tomorrow too and i am so excited. Should be a great time (for any nba fan going) !

This will work in any NBA arena if you are for the visiting team. Don't show up in a jersey or colors of the opposition. You can clap for your team if you like... but if you start standing up and yelling you will tick off some drunk dude. That's just how it works. So clap, support your team, wear neutral colors, and have fun. Just don't do anything that would annoy a stupid and easily excitable drunk.

Crap. I'm in Section 104. I hope you can't throw all the way down to row AA.

There isn't going to be real violence. I guess you never know, it only takes one moron. I'd expect to get some jeering and people yelling at you, but that's about it. Unless you're inviting people to get into it with you, I'd imagine even that would be minimal. Some of those Lakers fans go out of their way to get people annoyed with them, hence increased tension there.

Yeah we need to just enjoy the fact that division rivals get to duke it out in the first round. It's a great opportunity for fun and entertainment and I'm really hoping the only conflict is team vs. team. Once it goes beyond that it's just pointless.

On a side note wow Miami is playing some suffocating defense to start it off @ Boston. Wow.
