Magic Fan - Is Billups Available?

Post#1 » by Nolimit1211 » Sat May 29, 2010 3:29 pm

Seeing how every team that isnt winning the ship' is looking to make changes, I was wondering how you guys felt about Billups and if hes attainable? Hes exactly what the Magic are missing and after a few short comings with Denver it doesnt seem like he is going to be a final push to win a championship for yall.

Anybody on the Magic of interest you wouldn't mind seeing traded for Billups?

he's semi-available, meaning he is available but he treasure him pretty highly and i don't want anything from Orlando outside of Howard(which is unrealistic)... like Billups is available for certain players, like either a high pick or a young promising big... but we don't want a PG... Lawson is our PG of the future...

so I will offer you guys K-Mart, future second for Bass, Gortat, Filler

For ORL: When i was watching the Boston series i realized this team needs some toughness and the best way to do that would be to move Shard back to SF. So get KMart and sign a cheap back up big for the MLE. Dump two long contracts for an expirer.

For DEN: It's more about trading in an expirer for two young bigs. They would also be locked up long term so they could be future building pieces of the franchise. This lets us start Gortat and move Nene to PF with Nene and Bird spotting Gortat at the back up Center. While Bass would get like 20 minutes at PF.
some thing like
PF: Nene (28)/Bass (20)
C: Gortat (28)/(Birdman (12)/ Nene (8)

does orlando except?

My Magic Never have bought in hot-heads or trouble makers, K-Mart is out of the question.

Also, K- Mart for Bass, Gortat AND a Filler?

Not even for Gortat strait up lol. We need a Billups type of player. Ill take Birdman though, that guy has heart and hustle.

A guy plays tough, is one of the leagues top defenders, plays with a lot of passion, and is out of the question? Now that is funny. Very very funny. Your FO would pee themselves if they could acquire Kmart for Gortat.

You left out Injury prone, Hot-Head and overpaid. BUT He does bring in an aggressive nature which the magic need.

I'll give you overpaid, but he is expiring so that doesn't really matter anymore. Hot headed? He plays tough and aggressive. That's a good thing. He isn't injury prone, the injury he had this year was a very minor one that turned in to something bigger, because Denver's coach doesn't believe in playing his bench depth. So Kmart had a minor thing get worse, since GK overplayed him. Then he tried to come back to play for the playoffs, when he was still injured.

You mentioned heart. Kmart has one of the biggest ones in the league. The guy just wants to ball.

Going off topic.

Is there anywhere the Magic can get Billups?

I really don't see it working, because of the large difference in salaries.

Edit: Unless a third team wants to take Nelson. Then it might work, depending what Denver gets from the third team.

I would counter with Bass, Jameer, and Ryan Anderson for Billups.

OR, Pietrus/Bass/Nelson for Billups/Balkman/draft pick.

Billups is not going anywhere unless it's favorable for Denver. He's a hometown guy, and a proven leader. You obviously value his leadership, and so do we....

but the problem with him going to Orlando is that you guys have nothing we want... we don't want Nelson b/c Lawson is pretty much a younger cheaper version of Nelson and he is the centerpiece of all of your offers.... Besides i would prefer Billups to retire in Denver ...

Nope nothing for Billups. You might have had a chance of Nelson was an expiring contract but he isn't.

I would do Birdman for Bass however.

How about this one?

Denver in: Gortat, James Jones, Michael Beasley.
Miami in: Nelson.
Magic in: Billups.

Lawson/FA
AA/JR
Nene/Gortat/Birdman
Melo/Jones
Kmart/Beasley

Would just need to look to move one of the bigs to try to get a good backup PG.

Yeah that Dwight dude looks like he can be a solid role player for us. He just needs to hit the weights a little more.

But seriously, there isn't anything else I want from Orlando.....

Geez, some of you are so uncreative. With a third team taking Nelson, some good deals could be had.

Another:

Denver in: Gortat, Murphy, AJ Price
Indy in: Nelson, Balkman
Magic in: Billups

Lawson/Price/(Miller)
AA/(Miller)
Nene/Gortat/(Petro)
Melo/(Miller)
Kmart/Murphy

I have the team moving JR and Birdman. Signing or trading for Mike Miller. Miller can play 3rd PG. Though if the team can get a TPE for JR or Birdman, could use that to take Dooling and a late 1st or 2nd rounder from NJ. He'd be a solid 2nd PG.

Why do the Magic even want Billups? Seemed to me Nelson was the only one really playing well aside from dwight

I would only give him up for Dwight.

Nutty is a **** (Please Use More Appropriate Word) if he think Lawson and Price is good enough for a championship team

Maybe because they aren't (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and sees how huge Billups is for any team

When was the last team to win a championship with one of their undisputed top 2 players being their PG?

Derrick Fisher and Jordan Farmar are better?

What about a 2nd year Rajon Rondo and Eddie House?

I guess you could say that Parker was the 2nd best player on the Spurs although I think many would argue that Ginobli was actually more important and a better player at the time.

Miami had a combo of grandpas in Williams and Payton.

In fact the last time anybody could even argue that a PG was the best player on a team was with the Pistons 6 years ago, and it is still arguable that Billups was anywhere from the best to the 4th best on that team.

Prior to that you have to go all the way back to 1990 with the Detroit Pistons, to even have a chance arguing that a PG was the best player on the team.

Makes you kind of wonder who the (Please Use More Appropriate Word) is, when someone wants to keep a PG that plays a style that does not fit with the rest of the team, while ignoring some of our most glaring problems like the fact that we have a problem with lack of effective/ healthy bigs.

Or it could be because they have a dominant center and need another outside shooting option and is more then willing to share the ball, and hit wide open shots. Without that the Nuggets do not have much of a shot.

Of course I am sure that you would rather I did not point out the fact that outside of the Jordan/ Pippen Bulls no team without a truly dominant big or 2-3 very good bigs has ever won a championship. Because that may make your argument look a little silly, considering you have no realistic plan to fix that problem.

I personally would do Gortat, Anderson, and Jameer Nelson for Billups and Chris Andersen.

Gives the Nuggets a solid 4 big rotation, and allows Nelson to split time with Lawson. Without hurting the Nuggets chances long term to fix their problems.

I would also look at a deal where we could flip Nelson and Gortat for a better big.

Return to Denver Nuggets
