OT: CU to join PAC-10

Post#1 » by GuyJones » Thu Jun 10, 2010 7:39 pm

Just announced that the University of Colorado at Boulder will be joining the PAC-10!

As an allum i don't mind this too much, will probably increase recruiting since USC just got blasted with a 2 year ban from post season play and the loss of 30 scholarships over 3 years. Also we get to play Oregon, UCLA, USC and Arizona now, some big teams.

The one thing i will miss will be the Nebraska game at the end of the season. That rivalry is always fun.

What you guys think if anyone cares about CU :P ??

Colorado is a professional teams state, not college teams state. I don't care much for this.

CU sucks....and will suck even more in a better conference. They can't even beat CSU at home for **** sake. They would be better off moving to the WAC, maybe then they'd actually win **** occasionally.

I really don't see the issue with the Buffs doing this deal, after all what other choice did they have? The WAC is worthless, they would still get their asses kicked in the MWC without the additional revenue, and their fund raising would go from bad to worse with a move to either lesser conference. Not to mention that they lose any kind of recruiting advantage they have from being in the better conference as teams like Boise State, CSU, and even Wyoming have better facilities, and are much more supportive of their teams.

Fact is that if CU would take some of the money they are said to be making off of the deal and use it to improve their facilities, while using the conference and the idea that they will get to play against teams like USC, Washington, Arizona, Stanford, and possibly the Texas and OKlahoma schools on national TV every week to help in their recruiting, it could be a great move, and they could quickly rebuild their programs to being competitive. Of course they will probably just take the money give professors a raise, raise tuition, and call it good.

Seriously we have been so terrible. The Hawkins duo has just destroyed our team. The son is a terrible QB (played intramural ball with him and he is seriously 5-8) you cannot be good when you are that short, he cant see anything beyond the line of scrimmage. Also his father is a terrible coach. Terrible play calling and to go with that his recruiting sucks...

It all has been downhill after the recruiting / rape scandal back in '04 that killed all our recruiting and draw to the school.

seriously they are terrible with their finances. I do think the new schedule would help bring some positive attention to the school though. Also w/ USC being hit with a bunch of sanctions i think it is a good oppurtunity to get some quality national air-time against some big schools and steal some of their recruits that are gonna drop out now that USC lost 30 scholarships over the next 3 years.

Either way our first step needs to be to fire Hawkins, seriously one of the worst coaches in college football.

How is the Pac-10 that much better? They have one annual powerhouse. The Big 12 had two. Then there are a ton of mediocre teams who occasionally have good years. This is all about the Big 12 sucking Texas off and giving them way more revenue than the other schools. I'm glad they got out, and I'm even more glad those other Big 12 teams didn't follow. This played out as well as I could have hoped. Now if only the Hawkins family pledged undying loyalty to the Big 12.

LOL @ anybody that seriously thinks a team dropping to a crappier conference is a good idea. Less revenue FTW! That's going to help with facilities, recruiting, coach buyouts (hopefully), etc. Kiszla made that same argument in the Post. All he had is it made for better rivalries by getting to play CSU/Air Force/Wyoming every year. All that does it benefits those schools. CU blows junk right now at both sports (and will for the foreseeable future, no doubt), but your potential to be good gets worse when you go to a crap conference, not better. And the kick to the balls financially I'm sure is something they're drooling over in Boulder.

No brainer. As an alum, I certainly am more intrigued about seeing a CU road game now. Eugene, LA, Tuscon, etc. or Aimes, Iowa. Hmmmm...

I wonder if the Pac-10 will look to pick off Utah now, or if they're content with 11. Would be pretty damn funny right when the MWC thinks they're positioned for an automatic berth with Boise St. joining.
