I was mildly curious as to if you guys think that lawson is your pg of the future... I mean he's good but he strikes me more as a speedy claxon, (although better) provides a very nice boost off the bench. Do you think he'll be starting pg quality?

Lawson is better playing with better players. Claxton was more of a scoring punch, where Lawson is more of a distributor. I think Lawson is good enough to start on several teams around the league right now, and will be more then able to take over for Chauncey in a year or two.

How about next year, plz? Trade Billups for parts to upgrade the team and give the PG job to Lawson.

That could be jumping the gun, but in the small sample size of starts, Lawson statically was better than Billups. He also actually fits Denver's system better.

Really? Huh I didn't expect anyone to think that lawson was better then billups... and that you'd rather have him start. I'm going to assume thats a minority view however.

I wasn't calling Lawson better, he just fits Denver's system better. Billups wants to slow it down, while Denver has a running system and team. Lawson speeds the game up.

I know it'll take more starts for Lawson to prove if he can keep it up.

ah okay that makes sense billups would fit in just fine in portland..... just throwing that out there. However seriously your team got waay better when bilups arrives, I think you should keep him for now, even if you guys choked this playoff.

I feel like your Speedy Claxton comparison has everything to do with the fact that he was small and fast, and Lawson is small and fast...and very little to do with their actual games. But then again, half the time you'll see people make comparisons simply based on how the player looks(ala Adam Morrison getting compared to Larry Bird), so I wont hold that against you.

Personally I see Lawson being a completely different type of a player. Sure he is fast and can definitely use that ability to get some quick easy points in transition, but he is a much more complete player than just a scoring weapon off the bench. Even as a rookie he showed incredible efficiency in everything he did, and rarely made mistakes. He had one of the best A/TO ratios in the league, and not just among rookies. His shooting percentages were also top notch, especially for a small guard. He shot 52% from the field, and 41% from three. And that was with him still adjusting to the deeper three point line and the increased size and length of defenders, which led to many blocked shots at the rim and such.

As he develops I honestly see him becoming a top 10 point guard in this league, if not higher. He works hard and has a pretty good head on his shoulders too, so there is no reason to believe he wont improve substantially in the next few years.

ah thank you smitty I see hmm I didn't get to watch too many denver games this year.. though I did watch one were lawson raped, it was hence this topic, forget which one it was though. Anyway while i'm hesititate to agree with you on the top 10 point guard thing, From what you've told me (and from my own research) seems like he may become top 20, maybe 15. Also your probaly right on the speedy claxton comparison it was just the best one I had. Hmm it will be interestin to see what happens, I will of course be rooting that he doesn't pan out (no offense to anyone intended). I do love good pg though who are really pgs (jason kid is one of my all time favorite players).

IMO Lawson will be a top 8 PG in like 4-5 years...

but that doesn't mean we would just trade Billups and make the same mistake Detroit did... I think Billups finishes this year with Denver and we don't excercise the team option and offer him a small deal to stay on as Lawson's back up and eventually become a coach or GM...

That's interesting that you say that. I really don't think the ceiling is that high for Lawson or Aaron. I like both, but I certainly don't see them anywhere near the top a their positions, now or in the future.

Nobody likes to admit it, but size will limit him severely. He has skill, and that will keep him in the league, but I don't even see him as a starter.
