Damn, I really don't know about this one.

I thought Petro played pretty decent last year as our 4th big, and he also did a fine job starting when KMart was out. He's still relatively young and he could be a serviceable big.

At $10m for 3 years, I think we gotta match that. I'm guessing this year's salary would be about 3m. Lots of people expire after the season, and considering how Petro might become better, I think it's an alright deal.

I'm pretty sure he was an UFA, so I don't think they can. They had better pull off a trade for Al Jefferson or something though because it's going to be really annoying to have to hear Rex Chapman blather on about how: "If they would have known this was going to happen, they would have done something different to get a big."

I mean with the injuries to KMart and Birdman (and with no timetable for recovery) if the season starts now, would Brian Butch be the starting Center with Nene at PF? I don't understand how the FO isn't in panic mode and seems to be just letting FA big man sign elsewhere, and didn't really add a lot of big men to the summer league roster.

He's not RFA? Does that mean we didn't extend a QO to him? He was coming off his rookie deal wasn't he?

LOL, wrong. Petro played well when given a chance. Karl just doesn't like using his bench depth. Good signing for NJ.

We didnt extend him a season ago and re-signed him to a minimum contract.

Well that leaves Brad Miller and Shaq, maybe it is time to start looking at trading Melo, as it is looking like we are not going to be able to add a backup big for their value once you add in the tax, let alone a starting quality guy without moving Billups or Melo.

I'm glad he's gone. Now all the bs about him being the answer to our post problems can end.

Good guy though. I'm happy he got paid well.

I don't think anyone said that, but he was the answer to the Nuggets lack of a 4th big. Kmart and Birdman would have been a lot healthier this season if Petro got 10 to 15 a night.

Rebel -> I'd say look to moving Billups for some quality front court players. Lawson should be able to take over for him,

wow... Im baffled that Petro fooled a team into giving him this big of a contract. Not at all worth it. They can have him for that price. Hopefully this will get us to move in on something before we lose it. At least this means the Nets probably still aren't going after Haslem. We should definitely make a move for him before its too late. Otherwise as Rebel said, we're down to Brad Miller and Shaq as big impact bigs that we could possibly obtain.

Well the average backup center gets paid around $4.5-$4.7 million... Is Petro really that bad? I always thought he was to be honest

But crunching the numbers he seems like a respectable backup (just don't see the point in signing him for the Nets since any minutes Petro gets would be better served going to Favors)... Someone give me a scouting report, is he really Desgana Diop-like?

I would preferred a better 4th big, but I agree that he would have suited the role better than nothing.

If you didn't say it, then I'm not talking about you, but it was said.

Diops much better defensively IMO. Petros just a warm 7foot body. Better than cold i guess.

Truth is I thought Petro was worth the LLE, but as I said in another thread I figured someone would overpay him. Fact is that when we have needed a quality 7 footer for the last two years, Fact is that Petro was far from quality, but he at least fit the role. Now the best we may end up out of it is a undersized PF in Haslem, I would love to have someone explain to me how that is okay.

Might need to go vulture it up and pick over what's left in Cleveland. I'm sure the cavs are praying for harrison barnes and looking to unload contracts for expirings and picks. We have JR Smith and Kenyon Martin expiring. They could send Varejao, Parker, and Jamison.

If you are playing the Lakers you pair Varejao and Nene in the frontcourt. And you can go small with Nene, Jamison, and Melo. I'd also like to see the front office look at Larry Hughes if he's real cheap just in case we end up fighting injuries.

Varejao
Nene
Melo
AA
Billups
Reserves
Jamison, Lawson, Birdman, Parker, Hughes, Balkman

Missing pieces: 3rd string pg (could be hughes in a pinch), end of bench post player

Maybe the Nuggets could go out and get Hughes and Big Z?

I am glad he received a decent contract and I think he will make a decent back up to Lopez.

Ugh. Not one single move by the Nuggets FO yet. If we don't make any half-decent moves to add froncourt talent, we screwed.
