Could/Should we go after CP3?

Post#1 » by berserker » Thu Jul 22, 2010 2:45 am

I have a trade idea to float....

CP3/Okafor/Posey to Denver
Denver gives up Chauncey/Ty/Kenyon

OR

Include the Lakers in the deal, with LAL getting David West/Chauncey for Bynum/Vujacic, NOH giving up West/Paul/Okafor/Posey for Kenyon/Ty/Vujacic/Bynum, Denver gives up Chauncey/Ty/Kenyon for CP3/Okafor/Posey

Denver's lineup: CP3/Afflalo/Melo/Nene/Okafor
Denver's bench: Carter/JR Smith/Al Harrington/Shelden/Birdman

We take on a lot of salary here - but allows us to slide Nene to PF (his natural position) and gives Paul a "big three" - Nene/Melo/Paul. This gives us depth and scoring off the bench, a good defensive starting unit, and a LOT of flexibility with lineups.

Thoughts? I hated giving up Ty, especially with A/C off the bench. But had to do it for Chris Paul...

We should make an offer. Whether or not it holds any ground depends on how badly NO wants expirings. When Kenyons and JRs expirings we can easily absorb the contracts of Okafor and Posey. The only young talent we can offer is Lawson. I don't think NO has any desire for Billups; however, he would probably need to be included in some type of package that would give NO young talent while proving us with a solid big.

Anything that happens would probably be a three team trade... but I think the offer of Billups, Kenyon and 2 firsts for CP3, Okafor and Posey (and possibly Wright) is good for both teams... So of course we SHOULD go after Paul (at least give a couple of solid offers), but I don't think Stan would commit the money to take Paul (also the bad contracts) and if our current FO has the balls to get a deal like this done... I hope I'm proven wrong b/c they've been good at turning good players into better players through trades (Andre Miller for AI, AI for Chauncey, is Chauncey for CP3 next?)

Without a doubt.

Never pass on the opportunity to have two top 5 talents that can work together.

I don't see why the Hornets would want Billups contract.....

Here is a nice simple 3 way deal for the Hornet, Magic and Nuggets

Nuggets Out:
Martin, Billups, JR Smith, Future 1st

Nuggets In:
Paul, Okafor, Posey

Magic Out:
Vince Carter, Future 1st

Magic In:
Billups and Jr Smith

Hornets In:
Martin, Carter, 2 future 1st

Hornets Out:
Paul, Okafor, Posey

They gain two first round picks and dump a ton of money off the books.

Why not? He's an expiring contract if his team doesn't activate his team option.

Absolutely. What better way to prove to Melo that this team is committed to winning than going out and getting Chris Paul? As much as people like to hate on Stan and the front office, they're smart and they know this, I honestly think they'll do eveything possible to try to get a deal done.

I think we offer up anyone on the roster outside of Melo (and probably Nene). We're one of a few teams that have the ability to give New Orleans instant salary relief (Kmarts insured contract, also Billups/Jr's expirings) and young talent (Lawson, Jr, draft picks), while taking back a couple of their big contracts (Okafor, Posey).

While you clearly SHOULD go after him, I don't see how you have any chance.

"Billups, Kenyon and 2 firsts" for Chris Paul? Even with taking on okafors contract (and I don't think the salaries match) they'll laugh in your face. They want good young talent on reasonable contracts (that arent point guards, IE lawson), expirings, and good picks (IE lottery, not the nuggets).

I would say every team in the running (knicks, blazers, houston, nets, even orlando with anderson / pietrus / bass) can all offer better packages.

Send Kmart, Birdman, 2 first to NO for Paul and Okafor.

Ty to Indy for Hibbert who goes to NO.

If needed added JR and Posey.

Paul/Billups
AA/Billups/Karl
Okafor/Nene/FA
Melo/Posey
Nene/Al/Wliiams

Just need to find a backup center. Perhaps move Billups for a combo guard and bigman.

I think we have a much more realistic shot at landing Paul than New York does. New York has very few tradeable assets and if they want to keep Gallinari, they'd pretty much have to trade every single other eligible player on their roster. The only way to get Paul is if they take on Okafor also, and in that case they'd have no cap space left to sign Melo next summer. New York doesn't have any 1st round picks until 2013 either. There's no way in hell they can put up a better offer than we can.

Denver actually has the contracts/ TPEs to pull of a deal that would take off Songalia, Posey, Wright and Okafor off of New Orlean's hands...

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=29ozn33

add in 2 firsts and it saves NO a lot of money now and long term... not to mention Paul gets to play with another superstar

here's an idea of how we can pull off a trade that gets NO a young center in Hibbert and alot of cap relief along with potentially 4 first round picks (2 from the Nuggets, 1 from Indy, 1 from Charlotte). Indy gets a point guard for the future for just Hibbert and a 1st, and Chauncey and Larry Brown reunite for the next year, maybe 2 to give the Bobcats a great fit at the point in exchange for Dampier's non guaranteed contract and a first round pick. Nice part for the Nuggets, they also get to keep JR in this deal so they still have a full rotation going into the year

Paul / Karl / AC
Afflalo / JR Smith / Posey
Melo / Posey / Balkman
Nene / Harrington
Okafor / Birdman

Love that trade, only instead of Coby Karl why not throw in AC? In reality, it's hard to imagine NO even considering a deal like this without including Ty and/or Nene. I do like the idea of getting Okafor to give us a true C.

these all sound like good ideas and COULD work
problem is you are not on the list of teams he is asking to be traded to
then if NO really does give in to his request why would they trade him within the division
and you guys call knicks fans crazy

1. It doesn't matter which teams Paul wants to be traded to. New Orleans can trade him to whoever the hell they want to.
2. The Nuggets are in the Northwest Division, the Hornets are in the Southwest division.

Good try.
