Let Nene Walk?

Feels good to be talking Nuggets basketball again!

Kiszla wrote a piece about letting Nene go and it's a decent read. Nene disappears in big games and while he's a darn good player at 29 he's in his prime and he's not a max player. He eludes to Denver going after Marc Gasol (who is three years younger). While I'd love to have Gasol it'd also cost a pretty penny to pry him away from Memphis.

FO has a lot of money to spend come Dec. 9th....Hopefully they make smart choices.

t's widely assumed throughout the league that Denver won't dare let Nene walk. Of course, it was also generally believed Kroenke and Ujiri would get taken to the cleaners when they were forced to trade all-star forward Carmelo Anthony.

If the Nuggets want to be a threat to the rising power that is Oklahoma City in the Western Conference, out-of- the-box thinking is required. Who's to say a frontcourt rotation of Timofey Mozgov, Chris Andersen and an underrated performer such as Landry couldn't be as effective for Denver as paying too much for Nene, whose popularity with paying customers took a big hit with his ghost act in the playoffs?

If we can't get Nene back or Gasol here I think we need to blow it up. We shouldn't overspend on either, but without a solid post presence (and those are the 2 best available) this team will go nowhere fast.

we need to trade him for picks.

with half our team likely gone for next year, we can get a heads start on rebuilding, especially with this draft.

Nene is gone for sure.

I am a happy man if we get Gasol and TANK THIS SEASON. :)

Good. He was asking for far too much. We can get around the same production for less money.

I'm not sure this is true. Nene is the #1 FA target. And he's a guy who I've seen guards be able to front in the post, passes on sure layups and dunks to guys behind the arc, in addition to disappearing in big games.

This isn't a golden age of big men in the NBA. I can't think of one big man in the NBA that doesn't have some glaring deficiency. And there are a lot of them that are just not good at all.

He's one of the most talented big men in the league, but he doesn't produce when we need him to. I see no reason to overpay a guy who has been so unreliable.

Wow, apparently Nene wants 17.7Mil a year... If someone is willing to offer him anywhere near that, they can have him. Not worth anywhere near that. I do slightly question that source because there is absolutely no way Tyson Chandler is worth anywhere near 20 Mil a year.

Has to be BS. Nene is pretty silly to think he's worth more than the Nuggets' overly-generous 12m offer, but he couldn't possibly be this stupid.

Elite centers, those who can both score and defend, eat up too much cap room.

I think it's better to fill the center position with a defensive stopper and spend the money on dynamic players around him. Give me a space-eater who can be counted on for 8ppg, 9 reb, 2.5 blocks and a half dozen bruises to the other center and I'm a happy boy.

No, they're not easy to find, but once you hit about $10M/yr, they're hurting you as much as helping you. And I'd trade Monta for a strong inside defensive presence.

Excuse me? I might be a little drunk but who are you talking about? 8ppg. 9 reb, 2.5 blocks? Just from the blocks per game view.

So we have

Andrew Bogut- 12.8ppg, 11.1r, 2.6b, 12.1mil. this season
Javale McGee- 10.1, 8, 2.4, 2.4 rookie contract
Serge Ibaka- 9.9, 7.6, 2.4, 1.3 RC
Dwight Howard- 22.9, 10.1, 2.4, 17.9 waiting for huge contract
Darko Milicic-8.8, 5.2, 2 4.8

rest of the top ten shot blockers (under 2 per game)

Bynum, Stoudemire, Duncan, Jefferson, Jordan (RFA)

Again, which center are you talking about? :o

Mozgov might end up being the guy. Perfect. Otherwise I'd like to see Jordan (1.76 blocks per 36) or maybe Dalmebert, unless someone else is available that we don't know about. If you guys think that it's worth it to pay whatever it takes to have a dominant center, we'll just have to disagree. Didn't realize I was going to ruffle feathers like that.
