Welcome to the nuggets Corey Brewer and Rudy Fernandez!!!

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:08 pm

Denver has just acquired rudy fernandez and corey brewer in a trade with dallas for a 2nd round draft pick. Fernandez and brewer should turn out to be some nice pieces especially at only the price of a 2nd rd draft pick.

Not really excited for this deal, it sure seems to me that the front office is more focused on the wings with no rumors about any bigs except for a bust like speights.

Brewer fan here from Gator days. Hes a good pickup for Denver. Cheap, athletic, energetic. Coach Karl will love him. He may even start if Afflalo doesn't return. Depends how motivated Rudy is. He may ask for a buyout still!

Rudy Fernandez has regressed every year in the league. Don't let those highlights fool you, 90% of his shots are 3 pointers. That is NOT an exhaggeration. And last year he only made 32% of them...he literally has no other facet to his offense. He can't make a mid range shot and never penetrates.

His first 2 years, he could get ally-opps from his Spanish pal Sergio Rodriguez, but that part of his game faded away too. His defense is average at best, and he does get steals from time to time....but I'm not sure why this guy is even in the NBA.....he needs to go back to Europe.

He was a fan favorite his first 2 years in Portland, and by the end, he was the most despised!

I'm not super thrilled about this, but we really did get great value for just a 2nd round pick. Especially when you consider that Dallas gave up a 1st for Rudy alone back in July. It's a very low risk move that could potentially have a high reward. Gotta give the front office props for that.

Personally, I'd rather us give time to and try to develop Jordan Hamilton, but if nothing else, these two guys provide solid bench depth. I just hope Rudy doesn't bitch and cause problems when he doesn't get starters minutes. As for Brewer, I think one of his biggest weaknesses has been his lack of strength. The guy is a twig. I'm interested to see what Steve Hess can do with him.

Sure Corey Brewer and Rudy Fernandez are retreads but I completely understand that move by Denver. AA is a free agent. JR is an UFA, and Chandler is a RFA (obviously two are locked in deals overseas). Plus I think as much as I like AA you've got to be careful not to overpay him. I see him as the perfect player for a team like the Chicago Bulls because they need the "perfect" role player. We've got Lawson, Gallinari, and a returning Nene... a nice core to build around but it does not include the reigning MVP.

I like not resigning KMART and going after Mo Speights as well. The Nuggets need to have enough salary after they amnesty Al Harrington.
I like my prospects the same way I like my women... foreign- pickIBL

Come on, he has been an spot shooter because that's what McMillan wanted -and I'm not saying that's bad, maybe that was the best for the team-, but he can make more things and these months with Real Madrid he has recovered his confidence and looked like his old self.

These are the things that made him a fan favourite his rookie season:

^^^^ both fernandez and brewer will prosper here because karl likes to play a fast paced offense. unfortunately having all these wings players means karl won't get a chance to play miller and lawson(he better not anyways) so i think we should think about moving miller for a pick or a solid back up pg.

Fernandez has talked about the trade in the Spanish press before taking the flight to Denver.

The resume is that he is really pleased to have joined the Nuggets and that he things he could be a good fit for Karl's Euro coaching style. He received a call yesterday at 5am (Spanish time) from Karl himself explaining him the situation and that he wanted him for his new project.

Rudy was told that he would be at least the 6th man, taking over the minutes from J.R.Smith as he is in China for at least half of the season if not all.

Karl was R.Madrid coach in the past, so he has strong ties with the Spanish players, specially R.Madrid players like Rudy, even when he was not in the team when he was coaching it.

After Rudy left Joventut and came to the NBA, George Karl's son (Coby Karl) went to Joventud and also played SG.

I am surprised to see Fernandez planning to return to NBA. I thought he would not come back. Now after he gets the start people will see how overrated Afflalo has been since the Pistons.

afflalo has never ever been overrated, he didn't even get to play on the pistons. fernandez will also not be starting over afflalo.

It seems he's going with his girlfriend so he can stay some more months in the NBA. Anyway, I hope she doesn't like cold weather in Denver and wants to go back to Spain after this season is over, we'd miss him in Real Madrid  .

i expect rudy's game to translate better to denvers style of ball than portlands dreadful stagnant offense...and hopefully he plays more like 08-09 or even better.

if 60% of your fgas are 3 pointers....you darn well better make them over 32% of the time.

brewer will be okay until chandler returns or we find a better replacement. style fits the second unit....but it'd be nice to have another halfway capable shot creator/shooter at that position.

When you are always shut in the corner, and only get the ball after 23s in the shot clock 39.4% FG and 36.4% 3P is not good but exceptional.

I like the fact that Rudy really kows how to play off the ball.. That fits MUCH better next to Ty and Dre than guys like JR and Crawford that needs the ball in their hands.

I think Rudy's % will at least increase to JR level in our fast paced offence

I love the way our team is looking, just hope GK can teach these young guys how to get to the FT line. Gallo and Nene will do good, but we have to continue to be one of the most FT shooting teams

Pistons fan here. I think you guys, as long as you resign Afflalo, are looking really good still this upcoming season. I still think the Nugs are going to make the playoffs this year.

On that point, you guys better hope their FT% has went back to normal since the end of last season.
What did they manage? A full 20% decrease for Gallo and 15% for Nene? Damn, that's quite a lot.
