Every 5 games I'm going to update the most important statistics team to try to identify trends on the behavior of our Nuggets... upgrades/downgrades of performances compared to the previous and current season.
Season 2010-2011:
Pre-Melo trade (32W-25L, 29Home-28Road)
FG 47%, 3P 39%, FT 78%, 41 reb (9 off), 21.2 ast, 6.9 stl, 4.0 blk, 13.8 to, 107ppg
opponents stats
FG 46%, 3P 35%, FT 75%, 42 reb (11 off), 22.9 ast, 7.1 stl, 6.0 blk, 12.6 to, 105ppg
Post-Melo trade (18W-7L, 12Home-13Road)
FG 48%, 3P 39%, FT 72%, 44 reb (10 off), 24.1 ast, 8.6 stl, 5.0 blk, 13.8 to, 107ppg
opponents stats
FG 44%, 3P 32%, FT 77%, 40 reb (10 off), 20.6 ast, 8.2 stl, 5.9 blk, 14.4 to, 97ppg
Season 2011-2012:
First 5 games (3W-2L, 2Home-3Road)
FG 46%, 3P 26%, FT 78%, 40 reb (7.6 off), 21.4 ast, 13.6 stl, 3.0 blk, 13.8 to, 104ppg
opponents stats
FG 45%, 3P 26%, FT 76%, 44 reb (9 off), 21.4 ast, 7.6 stl, 4.6 blk, 20.0 to, 97ppg
Consideration:
1) Not simple schedule (4 of 5 games with playoff quality team, 3 of 3 on the road)
2) You can see an incredible increase in steals and forced turnovers and at the same time a reduction of offensive rebounds (small lineup of GK??).
I'm confident that if the Nuggets shoot 33-35% from 3 will be very very difficult for the other teams to compete.
What do you think of the season just started?

Re: Nuggets Season 2011-2012 stats
another interesting curiosity... in 5 games Denver averages 24 fast break points and the opponents 10.6
run, run... baby run
run, run... baby run

Re: Nuggets Season 2011-2012 stats
Our steals are off the charts (1st in the NBA) but the number of TOs are identical.
The dip in rebounds can be attributed to the 2 PG lineup for long periods of time. Fast Break points are great, but I would like to see a increase in 3 point shooting accuracy (that may take a few weeks).
Also, we don't block many shots! Is that because we are forcing our opponents to shoot more threes?

Re: Nuggets Season 2011-2012 stats
we'd be 5-0 if the three point percentage wasn't absolute garbage.
oh well. at least the team isn't playing out of its mind statistically (offensively) and still losing games, then i'd be worried. i fully expect that 3pfg% to be around 38 by the end of the year....and that'll take a stretch of games well above 40%, which means we'll probably win a couple we wouldn't have otherwise.
