Should Afflalo come off the bench?

Post#1 » by Ice32 » Wed Feb 1, 2012 7:53 am

Lately, Afflalo is looking bad. I mean if he just got 43 mil, he should start playing like he's worth it!

He isn't taking good shots, he isn't making threes (3 makes in last 5 games) or FTs (7 made in last 6 games), his defense is ordinary, he has 3 rebounds in 3 games and his decision making is below average (12 TOs in last 7 games). You can't blame the groin injury, if it was bad, he wouldn't/shouldn't be playing. Its his confidence in his own ability thats lacking, or he just doesn't fit in right now.

Maybe a move to the bench will help get him back on track, and be used as a scoring weapon? It will allow him to focus on his strengths against the 2nd units of other teams. He's a great spot up shooter, he's good at coming off screens and shooting, he's a dependable three point shooter. Maybe playing alongside Dre and Rudy will create more shots for him?

I say Coach Karl should try it and see what happens. Either that or reduce his minutes to allow Rudy/Brewer more time, who lately have been more productive.

He's never going to play like he's worth $7.5-$8mil. I thik he will turn it around, though. He's a hard worker, and these rough games are harder on him than they are for us watching.

he just needs to watch some tape of last year and simplify his game.

shoot it in the corner when you're open. play your ass off on defense. let everything else come naturally.

This a thousand times. Dude thinks he's the lovechild of Kobe and Sir Charles with all that posting up from almost 3pt line wasting most of the clock just to chuck a bad mid range shot. And he's always dribbling the **** out of the ball trying to get past his opponent. Let Gallo and Ty do that! You're not good at it!
His game has always been off the ball and a bit of fastbreaks: cuts to the basket, corner three, FT line mid range shot off the screen...
He's limited offensively, and always played like he realized that. That is, until he got paid.

Right now, Dre is playing better than Afflalo, and in the Playoffs, during crunch time, I'd rather Dre on the floor.

Next year Dre may be gone anyway, but right now we need his leadership.
