Should we consider TANKing?

Post#1 » by Yoga » Tue Feb 7, 2012 4:35 am

I think this team would benefit from a high draft pick in the 2012 draft; If we make the playoffs, I see us a first-round exit (like always).

George Karl might be fired too, which could be a good or bad thing; depending on who we could get to replace him.

I don't think any of the young players on the roster will benefit from us losing in 4 or 5 games in the 1st round.

Edit: Yes, the injuries and now Gallo having a chip on his ankle (might be out for 2 months); made me come to this conclusion

Denver Nuggets = Tank Nation?

no, our team has a winning mentality. a team with 1 starter almost beat the houston rockets.

Is this serious?

Lets not overreact. Losing Gallo could be a big setback, but we are not the only team dealing with injuries. I look at this is an opportunity for guys like Faried, Stone, Brewer and Koufos to step up and prove their worth. Don't forget that Brewer started 82 games a couple years ago. I might be wearing some thick homer goggles, but I still see this as a playoff team, especially if we sign Chandler.

Tanking does nothing but establish a culture of losing and apathy. I'm guessing a BLOW IT UP thread will be next.

Would you guys rather lose in the 1st round every year (a "winning culture") ? Or improve your team through the draft by getting a lottery pick? Looking at the current state of the team, I would rather get a lottery pick.

The problem with tanking is that in the end it is a lottery and nothing is guaranteed going that route.

There's no need to tank, if Gallo is out 8 weeks the team will go into a free fall on its own.

the combination of gallo being out a long time and having to wait 6+ weeks for Chandler is too much. Take a mulligan on the season.

No. The season is an utter failure if Denver misses the playoffs. Much of our struggles are related to things that seem to be easily fixable: missed free throws, terrible perimeter defense, and over-shooting the three when we can't hit a pea in the ocean. Some, is also related to injuries and lockout scheduling as well.

Teams only 'tank' if they are really bad, and have no chance to be a playoff team.

Denver is not in the same situation at all, really.

There's other ways of improving your team other then by a lottery pick. You can count on your young players to continue to improve as players. Losing in the first round is not a guarantee, but we certainly need to play better as a unit.

I suggested that changes needed to be made a few days ago, but TANKing??? C'mon, this isn't New York.

Sure the Gallo injury hurts, and sure, losing AAA, Nene and Mozzy is gonna hurt for a few days/weeks, but this team is still good enough for a top 8 spot.

When Brewer returns, I can see him sliding into the starting SF spot where he is capable of averaging double digits. Having Nene and AAA back soon will be great, and hopefully Mozzy isn't gone to much longer. Worse case scenario, Gallo is out 4-6 weeks, minutes could be:

C - Koufos - 18, Nene - 18, Birdman - 12
PF - Nene - 18, Harrington - 30
SF - Brewer - 24, Rudy - 24
SG - AAA - 28, Miller - 20
PG - Ty - 38, Miller - 10

LOL, so Gallo goes out and the Nuggets should tank? It is arguable if Gallo is even a top 2 player on the team, while the loss will hurt it does not destroy what they are trying to do this year.

Looks like Gallo is out a month at least (12 games), could be longer, you don't want to rush that type of injury.

Nene should be right for weekend, AAA is good for Dallas, Mozzy should be back next week

Brewer's dads funeral is this Friday so I would expect him back next week, Coach Karl has said that Brewer will get bulk of Gallo's minutes when he returns.

Until then, Rudy, Al, Dre play big minutes, Stone, Faried, Birdman, Koufos get more opportunities.

I was expecting around 8 weeks on Gallo.

Hopefully this will give Karl a better insight on other guys so that he will consider using the depth much bit more to avoid overload due to this insane schedule.

Few minutes played Hamilton looked ok to me any thoughts?
