Best fit for JR Smith?

Post#1 » by BernardKing » Thu Feb 16, 2012 4:07 am

Thanks in advance for any opinions of Nuggets faithful on this subject... More specifically, how was JRs chemistry with Melo over the years?

Edit: I'm not trying to troll or anything. The Knicks are enjoying good chemistry for the first time in a very long time, and I'm afraid of that chemistry being disrupted by JR... I figured, who better to ask than the ones who've witnessed his whole career pretty much. And if not NY, which team makes sense for him?

i know JR and melo were friends prior to both being in Denver, and i have heard they had their ups and downs while both were with the Nuggets. I have no idea how close they are now, or if they even like each other at this point.

As for best fit, right now I would actually say the Nuggets are the best fit if JR and karl could get along. they desperately need a shooter/ scorer who can hit outside and create for himself, as they only really have 1 outside shooter at this point.

From his supposed list, I think JR is best suited for Orlando, he would thrive next to howard especially being able to run the pick and roll with Howard and having other weapons on the court spread the floor.

As for the Knicks I don't think JR is really all that good of a fit, the Knicks need a defender/ spot up guy at the 2 who does not require touches, and is not going to want the ball in his hands. Jr is not that guy, the guy I would want if I was the Knicks would be an Afflalo type, or courtney lee (who was rumored to be available).

Ups and downs... Hmmm...
I was in favor of bringing in JR when we were losing, but with the Linsanity lately, combined with the way Fields and Shump are playing... I really don't wanna screw with their development. JR may actually find minutes hard to come by in NY, and an unhappy JR is no good for the locker room.

Melo and JR blend well together. JR was always part of the bench squad though, so it was always a question of a JR comeback if the starters didn't surmount a deficit. Defense is what it is, if your coach can get both to play D you aren't going to see anything but jellin'

Here's a hint though: JR would really like to be a starter. It's more of a progression of his career. He dealt with being unhappy fairly well all his years in Denver though, mostly because the fans love him and supported him. Made it easier. There were times JR should have started and didn't, but whatever -you give JR fan support and he gets it done. There wasn't a single time where the fans were loud and he didn't respond.

Thanks for the response. Landry is pretty entrenched as our starting 2, so JR might be hoping to show something, then opt out of his option for next season hitting the open market... Someone might give him the full MLE and a starting job. For now? Full steam ahead (recognizing that the last time my team got a chip was 1973 lol) !
