Is a quick rebuild out of the question?

Post#1 » by youngthegiant » Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:04 pm

I've been thinking lately about the future of the nuggets and how important it is to do a quick rebuild now rather than a long tedious one later. The pieces the nuggets have now are solid but they just are not the guys i see winning a championship. I think it's important for us to keep a core of lawson, gallo, faried, and maybe afflalo but everyone else is expendable. I just don't see nene ever being the big guy we needed in crunch time and it's better to move him before his value drops. mozzy has improved quite a bit but i see him better with a role off the bench. Here are the steps i would take to do a quick rebuild.

1. Re-sign chandler at any cost and trade him on draft day. Denver could get some good value back if masai plays his cards right.

2. Move nene to a team like the timberwolves, who are looking for a center to put next to love. if we can grab derrick williams and another draft pick, i would be not be mad at all.

3. Move harington, miller, birdman, fernandez. we may be able to trade them for value but amnesty is not of the question either.

4. Were left with ty, gallo, afflalo, mozzy, brewer, koufos, hamilton, faried, stone. but we will be able to draft some nice players and get some return for the players we traded.

A quick rebuild isn't out of the question, but it likely has to take the team to continue to struggle and be a lottery team for Denver to consider that route at this time. Rebuilding only really makes sense in that situation. No reason to have a $70 million team that has

Signing Chander at any cost isn't smart if they are looking to be able to rebuild at any time in the near future.

If you're going to trade guys like Nene, you usually have to take salary back. I'm sure there will be interest in Nene but can't see Denver getting a lot of pieces back. Also, can't see them dealing him at all unless again the team was in the lotto and Masai lost confidence in their core to ever make a run.

We're definitely in the rare situation where we can (and have been, post-melo) rebuild on-the-fly while still winning. I don't think there's any doubt that the FO will look to move Birdman and Harrington this summer. However, I think Nene and Andre are the 'glue guys' that need to be kept around if we do want to win. Outside of them, we're left with young guys who are highly regarded around the league and all of our draft picks - 'rebuild' complete, if you want to call it that. All you can do at that point is wait and hope that they develop up to their potential.

Sota has Pekovic that is beasting, and fits perfectly with Love since he is playing near to the rim...

Yeah thats not happening but exploring Bogut trade options is probably a good idea for the Nuggets. A deal revolving around Mozgov and another piece or two could work out nicely.

Liked him a lot but he is the injury prone and we have a guy plays down low in Nene and would not really want to get rid of Mozgov before we see him play decent amount of time healthy.

Greek is right. Pekovic plays like a monster! And it's not by accident. I watched him this Euroleague this season when he with his Partizan beat Real Madrid. He dominated! And Real has probably best big men in Europe. They have Begic (don't know, 7-3 or something) Tomic (very good Croatian), Mirotic (jeez he's good... Bulls made absolutelly teriffic draft with him. Mark my words), Reyes (Spanish veteran) and Ibaka. Noone could even slow him down... Glad Adelman finally found he's a gem on his roster.

Bogut for Koufos and protected first? Comme on... Bucks GM after brain surgery wouldn't do it.

Buks never give him up that cheap and its a bad deal for the nuggets. Kosta is signed @3mil/yr for the next three years after this one. He is 22 and HEALTHY!! Ill take kosta.
