In pretty much none news, lawson wants an extension.
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... _In_Denversounds like McGee really liked it in Denver and wants to stay
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... Of_NuggetsI hope we keep both of them on fair deals, hate to lose either one after what they both showed in the Lakers series

What do you guys think the contracts will look like for both these guys?
They both deserved to get paid but at what price. I think McGee is worth only about 6-8 mill a year but bigs always get overpaid so I expect him to get about 10-12.
Lawson I am not sure about. I love him on our team, and really want us to re-sign him. For how much is the question. How much will we even have left for McGee after we pay Lawson.
Over the next couple months it will be interesting to see what Ujiri does.

definitely want both of them back, the question is for how much. i don't think there should even be a discussion about resigning ty, he should be a lock. i'd go maybe 8 million per going up to 9.5 on his last year, so something like 4/36 maybe even 4/40. mcgee i'd go as high as 4/44 solely because of the quality center shortages in the league.
the difference between ty's and mcgee's contract is the factor of risk. i don't see anything but improvements from ty, but mcgee is a question mark. whether he'll develop his insane talent into consistency and become one of the top west centers is still up for debate. i think he can do it, but i don't want to cripple our options in signing other players by overdoing it with him.
we also need a backup pg, don't know what's available but am definitely not comfortable with stone.

We all know big men get paid, but I'm hoping the Nuggets can get McGee inked for under $10mil/yr. I'm expecting Masai will match any offer up to a 4yr/48mil deal though.
The Ty extension is more of a question mark. The front office made a point when signing Gallo, AAA, and Chandler, that they want a collection of players all making about the same, with no real 'superstar' cutting into most of the payroll. Now I really expect Ty to get more than AAA got (almost $9mil/yr) since he really is the centerpiece of this team, but how much is too much? And is it worth it to Ty to wait until free agency to try getting more money?

Afflalo got a $38 million 5 year deal, so he makes less then $8 million per.
I have said this whole time that I think McGee gets a contract like Jordan, which is 4yr $43 million, or 10.75 million a year on average. Which starts at just over $10 million a year, and ends right under $11.4 million a year.
With Lawson I am a little more up in the air, but I think I would consider him better then the tier that guys like Conley, Mo Williams, Jameer Nelson, and Rodney Stuckey were all on when they signed deals averaging between $8-8.5 million a year contracts. I also do not see him getting max money, or even tony Parker type money at this point, so I would probably say a 4yr $40 million a year deal would be pretty fair.
Salary cap is fine for both deals. This year the Nuggets have $11 million under the cap before cap holds, and the draft. Signing McGee with put them at $57 million a payroll after they add in their draft pick, leaving them the TPE of $13 million, the MLE, and the LLE to sign anybody they would need, without amnestying Andersen, or salary dumping anybody.
The cap/tax will be a concern though if the Nuggets add significant salary this offseason, and do not remove any of the long term deals. Lawson's deal would not kick in until 2014, which with McGee and lawson's extensions and the draft picks they will be slightly over the cap, but should be significantly under the tax. but they will still need to add a couple of players, and Brewer, Mozgov, and Stone will all be expired by that point.

by the end of the 4 years, they'll be entering their primes, if they keep improving their large payday will come. i don't think they'll ask too much to be honest.

Shall we have a consolidated OFF SEASON thread ? That way we can talk anything relates to player movements, contracts etc?

yeah, it's cool if you merge my thread and this to the offseason one.

As good as McGee is for his position, I can't see him worth 14m a year.

I really think we'll get a home-town discount kind of thing for McGee. He loves the team and probably feels appreciated, something he most likely can't get from a lot of other places. He fits in.

Is anyone really dumb enough to offer him 13 to 14 million per?

I think if Dallas misses out on Deron . They go for Dragic or a Backloaded Lin contract then try to offer enough for that Denver doesn't match for McGhee. They may overpay a little but I do see McGhee getting 12-14 million from someone . Why not 11 PPG 8 RPG 2 BPG in 25 MPG 24 year old mobile center . He will get paid by someone .
Dallas could draft a shooting guard ( Terrance Ross) and immediately good more athletic and younger at 3 positions of need
Lin/Ross/Marion/Dirk/McGhee

I think Denver has been very clear in their plans to keep McGee, I hope it is not that nearly that much but I can see the Nuggets matching anything.

We probably able to keep him 10-11 Million per imo.

McGee is still a HUGE risk. In Denver he was a 10/6 guy in 20 MPG that couldnt take PT from pretty average competition like Mozgov and Koufos.
In the playoffs he had two great games, but otherwise pretty much sucked. He put up 4.5/7.5 on a whopping 21% from the field.
I just dont ever see him putting it all together. I'd like to see us find a S&T where we send him to a rebuilding team for a more established C. Someone like Gortat.

certainly don't have a problem with gortat. i could see a slight possibility of getting him, if nash leaves of course. mcgee for the suns would be a good rebuilding piece.
