indeed interesting. makes me optimistic about our options and left me hopeful that our front office still has a few tricks, not that they haven't been phenomenal already. we've got the core pieces assembled, we just need that one outlier who can take us all the way.

So trying to figure out which teams are likely to be hurt the most by the cap and if there are any deals that could be mutually beneficial.

Atlanta Hawks- JJ having a huge and long contract will really hold this team back. Can they really expect to get a bunch better then they have been? Why pay so much luxury to be mediocre. Would Atlanta be willing to trade Horford? He had a torn pec last year and I would expect his numbers to be similar to what he averaged 2 years ago. Since he can fit under the Nene TPE, we don't have to have matching salaries, so draft picks and cheap contracts will likely be needed. I am not a huge fan of Josh Smith but he would be on the block as well. Maybe Koufos, Chandler, #20 for Horford and Marvin Williams?

Oklahoma City Thunder - They can read the writing on the wall, how do you pay Durant, Westbrook around 35 mil, and then resign Harden and Ibaka. They will need to be well into luxury tax territory to sign both and I don't think it will happen. I would be interested in either Ibaka or Harden. This would probably happen at trade deadlline.

Lakers - I don't really like any option here. Gasol is to old and eats up huge cap space, Bynum is a bit of a knucklehead. maybe a 3 way deal, but not sure how that would work out.

Heat - doubt they break up the big 3, especially if they win the championship. They won't screw over wade like that, and Bosh is proving very valuable to them. Maybe if they look fragile or inconsistent and end up losing though. I would not trade for Wade though, his knee is on a serious downward slide.

Knicks - but I don't see them as a trade partner.

Clippers - but they won't give up CP or Griff so no point.

Memphis - Not a fan of Rudy Gay, Wouldn't mind taking a long look at M Gasol though.

I would say OKC, Memphis, and Atlanta are most likely.

I'm also curious if anyone knows more about TPE's. If we traded Harrington to the Lakers for the Odom TPE, then I think we would get a TPE for Harrington. Would this add his salary to the Nene 13 M TPE or would it be two separate TPE's? It matters because I think a player needs to fit entirely into the TPE.

For everyone screaming that we should go out and re-sign McGee... they should read that article.

it would be 2 seperate TPEs, and they cannot be combined once a deal is done.

I read the article and i still think they should sign McGee for a reasonable deal. This idea that the Nuggets will be the only ones with the ability to use cap space over the next couple of years is a fallacy. The Nuggets will still have the ability to get max space through the amnesty next year, when teams have to cut salary, even if they are paying mcGee $10+ million a year.

I do think some team could give McGee a deal starting at 10 mil a year which is a lot less than he is asking for. The DenverStiffs called it as it is... we are starting the age of what is basically a hard cap in the NBA. Potential doesn't win games so I do see McGee being worth just 6 or 7 million say next year. Denver should just wait him out and see what happens. But I think some team might throw out a big offer and I'm not sure Denver would be wise to go there.
