Thoughts on the #15

Watching the game the other day I was a little thrown off by Randolph wearing #15. I guess Carmelo didn't do enough here to warrant his jersey being retired but he was the best player Denver has had in a long time. He brought the organization out of the dumps and was a fan favorite until the very end. Sure he wasn't much on D but he could score from anywhere and was exciting to watch.

Knock on him all you want for leaving but he didn't put the Nuggets in the situation all the other big stars put their respective teams in. We got dumped for NY, oh well.

Call me crazy but it just doesn't seem right seeing another player wear a #15 jersey.

Masia put us in the position we are in today, not Melo. He may have done good things here but he ruined any love I had for him with how things went down. It'll take awhile to heel the wounds he opened if at all, so Ild guess if ever, it will be after he retires.

We got to the semi finals with him... it could get retired some day. Funny thing is I bet Melo wishes he had just signed that extension now. Even more hilarious is that our situation is even better now without Melo, Nene, or Billups... so go figure.

Carmelo hasn't retired yet. Anyone can wear 15 if they want it.

As long as a player is playing they never retire that players number.

Right now I have mixed emotions on whether 15 should be retired, while the franchise turned around when he was drafted and he was a big part of that, the team did not have great playoff accomplishments. He also forced his way off the team wanting to go to only one team, and openly flirted with that team & city. Maybe as time passes I will lean one way or another, but right now I can understand both sides of the argument and will not be upset with either decision.

Obviously anyone can wear the number...

The forcing his way to one team and flirting is probably the biggest reason why it would never hang in the rafters. His seven full seasons in Denver were exciting, heartbreaking in the end but still. He brought a winning mentality to this organization and we've been to the playoffs 9 straight year because of him. (And the fact that Dumars was dumb enought to take Darko)

Guess I'm not ready to see someone else running around with that number.

Retiring a number is a way for a team to show some love to a player and honor his career. When a player openly wants off the team and shows no loyalty, there is no reason to retire his number. Carmelo was a great player, but not a great Nugget!

Based on what he did in the uniform his number easily deserves to be retired. I mean, if Byron Beck has his number retired, so should Carmelo Anthony. But that's only based on performance, and not anything else. A big reason why a fairly average player like Beck does have his number retired is because he played his entire 10 year career in Denver(along with going to DU), and was always a class act and great teammate. That's a big part of it too. Retiring a player's number is an honor, and it's hard to make a case that after what Melo did to the franchise, that he deserves to be honored by the team in any form.

I think #12 should be retired before #15.

This crossed my mind too when I first noticed Randolph was wearing #15, but it didn't take long to realize that I really don't care. **** Melo.

Comme on. It's not like you're gonna watch No.15 play, really.

Just crossed my mind- George Karl said he likes to work with intelligent players. So Ujiri brings Brewer, Randolph and McGee... The first all-dumb team frontcourt. Karl should eat some marihuana cookies before the games.

I actually could agree with this after all he was one of the guys I loved as a kid, but it has been so long that I doubt they ever retire that number for him.

Perhaps another steal to get the quadruple double and #12 would be hanging in the rafters.

But you're the one who said you were surprised that his number hasn't been retired. It's been under two years since he left. WAY too early to even think about retiring it.

I think it's good that someone else is wearing the number. It would be different if the split had been more positive, or if the guy just retired. but he kind of jerked around your team, and he didn't give them anything incredible. No real playoff success, etc. He was a good player who took an ugly exit. The organization has done a GREAT job moving on.

I never said I was surprised his number hasn't been retired, simply said I was surprised/or caught off guard seeing someone else wearing it.

Look at the NBA today, teams jerk players around as much as players do it to teams. Business is business

As usual no one even thinks for a minute george karl had something to do with the playoff woes when melo was on the team

karl is a garbage playoff coach.
