2013 NBA Draft... 3 Nuggets Picks

Post#1 » by pickIBL » Thu Feb 14, 2013 5:32 pm

So we are going to be slotted something like 25th in the 1st round and 44 & 52 in the second to start out giving us an idea.

According to some random boards there is a surprising amount of talent that could be available to us around 25.

That includes

Karasev (6'8 Wing) Russia
Mitchell (6'8.5 PF/SF) N Texas
S. Adams (6'11 C) Pitt (bit of a project but interesting)
And I'll throw in Myck Kabongo 6'2 PG Texas after last night's performance.

Kabongo has some long arms and he got to the rim for some key bucks in last nights double OT thriller. It also reminded me that Will Clyburn ought to be on our summer league roster for sure.

If one of those guys is available when we draft I say we did pretty damn well. Karasev at 19 is freaking amazing. He''ll grow into a nice SF... maybe a 2 in Europe but not in the NBA. Highly skilled right now and above and beyond Fournier in his development.

Adams would be a fun project at the 5 spot. You gotta love a big man with a high ceiling late in the 1st.

If Mitchell fell to us that'd be absolutely fantastic. His game would translate to the pros well. I could totally see some GM being stupid and drafting Doug McDermott over him or something. That's work out great for the Nuggets.

Kabongo could definitely be the future replacement for Andre Miller down the road. He's been out and that has hurt his stock... which is great for Denver.

The 2nd round has plenty of draft and stash options. Schroeder is a nice looking 19 year old PG in Germany that would be perfect for something like that. Then you basically hedge your future back up spot between Myck & Dennis.

Bottomline is with the new CBA drafts become more important and just because we are drafting pretty low... that doesn't mean there won't be good talent out there for us.

A lot depends on what goes down at the deadline & what Iggy does with his contract situation. But if we draft smart that can help us make up for the lose of Iggy or a trade that involves moving out someone like Hamilton & a vet to bring in a difference maker for this year.

At best the Nuggets only have 1 2nd round pick, the Nuggets 2nd round pick goes to Phoenix baring a huge collapse and the Portland pick comes to Denver if it is outside the top 40. The Warriors pick went out with the Iggy deal.

Also is it not a little early to be worrying about the draft considering the trade deadline is not even past, not to mention March Madness and the huge movement of prospects projections throughout the tournament and pre draft crap?

Never to soon to talk about how we could get Mitchell so late. Rich getting richer...

They need a sharpshooter, or develop Fournier into that guy. He's shooting 44% from 3 on 29 attempts (13/29), but that might be a fluke, as he was really not known as a sharpshooter in Europe. Regardless, they should play him more, and see if he can contribute more, he played well when he got the opportunity, even on defense.

Management really talked up his shooting when they drafted him and it sounded like he was just streaky over there. So far he has looked great in his little time. His confidence is really noticeable when he shoots from downtown.

As I've been mentioning Sonny Weems has been shooting the ball very well for CSKA Moscow. He is my pick to replace Brewer.

I hope we swing for the fence in the 2nd round and take a high ceiling guy. The word is out on Giannis Adetokoubo. I think it'd be neat if we took him. 18 and would be a fantastic project for the D-League. He's at least a couple years away but to find tools like that in the 2nd round of ANY draft is terrific. I'm curious about taking a flyer on this guy. No big contact in the way of us signing him & he doesn't want to be in Europe... his goal is to come to the USA ASAP.

Pelle going to declare. Adetokundo supposedly not likely to get past OKC in the first. Big jump from the 2nd league in Greece to the D-League for sure.

.

As far as drafting a wing who can shoot from the perimeter, has anyone see Allen Crabbe (California) play?

Faried was a 22nd pick. I think Nuggets Club knows how to pick correctly. If you can land another diamond in the ruff, your gonna be #1 next year.

Your future is looking good with McGee and Faried.

well after faried & fournier, i trust that masai knows exactly what he's doing.

don't really care who it is, just know they're gonna be good.

That is if we keep Masai. He's a FA, and it would be a huge mistake to let him walk.

It would be a mistake... whoever is doing the scouting and making the right calls on draft picks. They gotta stay. I wouldn't mind a Blatt for Karl swap though.

Crabbe...

he has good length for the 2. he has defensive potential IF he can stay focused on the floor.

good set shooter. when open and has space... with feet set... he is automatic.

Good off screens. Not going to "get his shot" Not a super star in the making. Possibly a future 3 and D guy.

He'll get serious consideration from the Nuggets. He'll get less attention in the NBA but the game will speed up obviously. He's a bubble 1st right now. Longer than Michael Redd was.

I honestly have no idea, how you could get any better. Unless you add a future All-Star...

Hoop Summit measurements are out.

Schroeder just measured in at 6'2 with a 6'7.25 wingspan

Givony tweeted the Schroeder could do anything he wanted in practice today for the Hoops Summit.

Jaiteh came in at 6'11/250 with a 7'4 wingspan which is huge considering he was listed at 6'8 220. Add in Karasev and we could be watching up to 3 first rounders.

Portland seems to be willing to offer draft compensation to take McGee's contract.

If we absorb his entire contract, which we could, I don't think we would give up the 10 pick. It seems as Denver is in dump McGee mode as he did not even start and they have Koufus and seem to want to keep Mozgov. I don't think we would do that. do you have a later 1st rdr that we might switch picks, perhaps in the 15-20 range?

With the gallo injury I think it is a good idea... but I can't say the Denver front office or Coach Karl does. I think that is a lot less clear.

We do have our first round pick. But I would be remiss if I didn't point out that your "top ten" is in the 2013 draft which very greatly negatively impacts the value. That's why your FO is open to moving it.
