Brian Shaw's wisdom

Hey guys just wanted to share this awesome article with you all. Kelly Dwyer from Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie blog rights some of the best work and he's done it again. This recent article talks about how Brian Shaw won't let his guys eat fast food before games anymore.

Even though Denver is one of the younger teams in the league, Shaw's got it right in my mind. It's crazy to think that small things like a diet for professional athletes can go a long way, even if it makes them half a second faster or a little bit more explosive. Let me know what you guys think of the read!

My question is when did the Nuggets stop eating healthy? I remember some Altitude piece just a handful of years ago going over a very extensive health food setup that the players stuck to religiously. Chicken breasts, sweet potatoes, and dark leafy greens.

When did that stop?

Unfortunately my guess is when they started getting only young players on the team with little veteran guidance..it's a real problem when the only other vets on the team are Andre Miller and JJ Hickson

I saw somewhere that nuggets are something like 1-9 since banning pizza and nachos.

Well, comfort food helps especially in Winter. There has to be a balance.......don't lean on comfort food, but time it right and it does wonders.

That system they had was working. You do chicken right and it can be even tastier than the best nachos. You just down the greens however you can that's safe. Sweet potato mash is just perfect for pre or post game depending on your needs.

Save nachos for once a week. Get a quality pizza ordered once a week on a different day. The other 4 days stick to the health food.

Though, you know.....as a professional ball player I would have no trouble banning nachos or pizza for the whole season if I had to. You put in the work and selectively reward yourself, but never put nachos before the team.

"Never put nachos before the team" yes, please quote me on that one if you need a new sig

Agreed, maybe it is time to let them go back to eating high carb junk food, especially since so many of the team seem to be running out of energy half way through the 2nd quarter.

Well, they don't have to go nuts with the junk part. You can make some pretty useful nachos with some effort.

Throw some hummus in there in a seven layer dip, bingo.

The pizza can be made with bbq chicken and extra onions.....onions are great pre-game.

Yeah I've got to agree with you guys, you definitely need some comfort food especially given their extreme sub-par performances these past games. But can we agree that they shouldn't be intoxicated going into games or during half time? I don't think a sober Randy Foye would be shooting that much or a sober JJ Hickson would be flaking at rebounds instead of grabbing them...

Unless I'm wrong?

Idk relying on "junk" comfort foods could be covering up a bigger problem?

No one really knows....

To get the most out of the workout you want a slow-burning fuel. Sweet yams, some greens, doesn't get better. Why the hell would you put anything else in your tank when you're playing for millions of dollars?

But yeah.....I mean if 5 minutes before game time there's nothing in the tank, grab a glazed donut. Or a cinnamon donut if you're smart and you realize cinnamon fires up the blood. Better than nothing and tanking out.
